The Government of India's Department of Telecommunications today said that it is awaiting reply from Vodafone India, Bharti Airtel and Idea cellula on show cause notices issued for entering 3G into Intra-Circle Roaming agreements for providing 3G services in outside their licensed circles through these roaming pacts with each other, before taking further action against them.
Telecom Secretary R Chandrashekhar today said "We have send notices (for 3G ICR) around a month back. Operators were given 60 days time to respond. We are awaiting their reply. Then, we will take further action."
Last month the DoT has issued notice and directed to Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and Idea Cellular to stop 3G services in non- 3G circles or outside their 3G licensed areas through the mutual Intra Circle Roaming Agreements.
However, on October 2nd, 2012, Bharti Airtel has approached the High Court against the Department of Telecommunications (DoT)'s notice in 3G ICRA as we shared on TelecomTalk. The HC asked the government not to take any coercive steps against the company.
