Tata Docomo Launches Track Me Location Tracking Services

By June 2nd, 2014 AT 1:25 PM

Tata Docomo has just introduced “Track Me” service for its subscribers which send a message to the chosen recipient about your location by making use of the network coverage towers of the operator. It has been introduced in two guises:

track-me

  • Track Me – Location SMS every 15 min. for 2 Hrs @ Rs.5/- per event
  • Track Me Day – Location SMS every 30 min. for 8 Hrs @ Rs.10/- per event

Here’s how it works:

Track Me: It works wonders for individuals who are running late, driving and so on and are low on battery. If the phone gets switched off, the families tend to get worried. So it saves your battery by not using GPS and sends an automatic message after every 15 minutes to the chosen recipient(s) for a maximum of 9 times.

Track Me Day: It works wonders for managers/professionals who have a staff to take care of which has to do research and field work. It helps keep a check on complacency of the staff as it lets the manager know if the field workers have actually done the research as it helps the managers know their location. It sends an update every 30 minutes about the location for 8 hours.

We really like the service and the corporates can actually benefit a lot from it. Families can be made aware of the location of their loved ones and their tensions can be taken care off too.

As far as I remember, this service was there in docomo for previous few years… I tried using it about 1 or 2 yrs ago but it didn’t work out… and my balance got deducted. I called CC but they had no idea about that service. It was available through USSD(I dont remember the USSD code now) which I found out one day while browsing the USSD codes. Maybe it was experimental at that time, which they finally released now. I wish it works now correctly. Has anyone tried it?

First of all, thanks to ritij for pointing out usefulness of this service as i couldn’t find any. Anyways, docomo internet has improved a bit from what it was previous but still coverage remains a critical issue everywhere (except delhi where they enjoy best coverage on vodafone IN). I don’t think that going to be solved unless the company is sold or merged. The 3G ICRA doesn’t seem to be working on docomo. The SIM didn’t latch on any of the 3g network available in delhi. I guess the data pack is the culprit as i didn’t have one. Thats… Read more »
