IMPORTANT

Airtel users please pay attention here: Today evening I received a USSD message from airtel- “Enjoy 3G speeds on 2G pack @ no cost”. I am currently using a 2G plan so I immediately switched onto WCDMA mode and tested the speed, it was arould 2 mbps!!!! Immediately, I checked the same on many airtel SIM and result was same- 3G speeds at 2G pack. My number is of delhi/ncr circle so I request everyone to verify the same using their airtel SIM cards and 2G plan whether you get the same result.

@SS, Yes. It is correct. Airtel has converted 2G pack data into 3G or I should say they removed the speed capping. But MDMA showing 2048Kbps i.e 2Mbps as you said. I’ve HP SIM ans using Idea network in Haryana.

On my Haryana SIM which still latches on Idea 3G network, speed is capped to 80Kbps using 2G pack (125-1GB). So I think it’s done in 3G circles only not ICRA circles. On HP SIM, I will activate unlimited pack, if any official announcement is made by Airtel. Btw I’ve saved the screenshot of MDMA telling 2048Kbps speed cap. Had 100MB of 2G data left on HP SIM and now it is nil. lol

I have written the same to Tarun and he is investigating the matter and will soon come with an update.

We use Airtel only because of best offers. Yes they are costly at base rates. But here are the offers (*121*1#) which make us use Airtel- 1. Calls- 900 second local+std at Rs.5 only and you can activate this multiple times and this offer is available from 5-6 months on my number. I use it sometimes when needed. Other offer include 4500 seconds L+N @Rs.25 only for 7 days. 2. SMS- 750 in Rs.29 only. Generally they provide only 300 SMS and if you have offer, they add the extra benefit of 450 SMS in 4 hours but it gets… Read more »
