OnePlus has again played a critical move to impress the users of its phone. The Chinese OEM has announced that it will be bringing the Android Q Developer Preview to its OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T phones. Now, if you have already seen the Google I/O conference, then you’d know that the Android Q Beta 3, the latest Android Beta version is available for 21 phones from 13 OEMs and OnePlus is one of the brands to be included in that list. Now, it is very well known that OnePlus is mostly ahead of other manufacturers to roll out these updates to its users and now the brand has done it again.

OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T Android Q Developer Preview

In an official OnePlus forum post, Manu J, Global Product Operations Manager at OnePlus revealed about the Android Q Beta for OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T. He also said that OnePlus phones are one of the most developer friendly devices out there and that he will be looking forward to seeing, how the developer community takes advantage of this beta version to create even better software experiences. It is also worth noting that since this is the Developer Preview of Android Q, it comes with its own set of quirks. The ROM is also in the early stages of development, and thus OnePlus has warned that users with no experience in software development and flashing ROMs should refrain from installing this package.

OnePlus has also listed some of the issues which the users of this ROM might face, and these include a buggy camera and portrait mode which do not seem to be working. Some of the other issues with the ROM include system stability issues, encryption – which will change in the next preview build and problems with some apps which might not function as expected in this build of the Developer Preview.

How to Install Android Q on OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T

OnePlus has also illustrated the steps in case you are running a stable version of Android or the Open Beta version, and you want to update to the Developers Preview. To upgrade, firstly you will need to download the zip package of the ROM from the specified server (download link is provided at the bottom of the article). Since the flashing will remove the contents of your phone, you should backup all your data first. Now copy the ROM package to your phone storage.  Go to Settings -> System -> System Updates -> Click top right icon -> Local upgrade -> Click on the corresponding installation package -> upgrade -> System upgrade completed to 100%. After the upgrade, restart your phone. The phone will boot into recovery mode to format user data, and reboot again thus indicating that your update is successful.

In case you want to rollback from the Developers Preview version of Android to the stable version of Android for your OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T, then OnePlus has also issued those packages, and you can flash them the same way, with the above-given steps by downloading the Rollback package.
