Nokia announced on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, that it had signed a multi-year patent license agreement with Samsung, allowing the use of Nokia's video technologies in Samsung's televisions. As part of the deal, Samsung will pay royalties to Nokia. This new agreement is separate from their existing 5G patent licensing arrangement, with the terms remaining confidential.

Multimedia inventions by Nokia
Nokia has invested nearly EUR 150 billion in R&D since 2000, including over EUR 4 billion in 2023 alone. According to Nokia, the company's contributions to video and multimedia technologies span video compression, content delivery, and hardware innovations, resulting in nearly 5,000 inventions over the past 25 years.
