LG is now rolling out Android Oreo update to its two-year-old LG G5 smartphone in South Korea. In recent times, a plethora of LG devices have received the Oreo update and the modular smartphone G5 is next on the line. Notably, the LG G5 was released with Android Marshmallow on board back in 2016. Later on, it was updated to Android 7.1.2 Nougat last year, and now, the South Korean electronics company has released the Oreo update, at least in its homeland. At the moment, it's unknown when LG will release the update globally, but for now. This news is confirmed by users on LG G5 XDA Forums page and the users in Korea also receiving OTA update.

Android Oreo is the Last Major Update to Android 9 Pie

The LG G5 is a flagship smartphone from the company for 2016 and it's already more than two years since the device's launch. So it' safe to assume that the Android Oreo will be the final major update to the G5 and it won't be eligible for Android 9 Pie. Usually, LG releases major software updates for two years and the life of LG G5 has already completed.

LG Software Centre is Finally Working

Earlier this year, LG announced that it has set up a software centre to rollout faster software updates to its smartphones. The software centre is finally coming to life as in recent times, we have seen phones such as LG Q6, LG V20, LG V30 receiving Oreo update. Also, it will take just a few months for the company to release Android 9 Pie update to the LG G7 ThinQ.
