‘Magic Data voucher’ : Aircel’s response to rival’s data packs

Aircel, India’s fifth largest cellular operator, has now launched ‘Magic Data Voucher’ for their prepaid customers across their 3G circles.

The company’s new ‘Magic Data Voucher’ will offer up to 15 GB of 3G data for 28 days at only Rs 248 – the minimum assured data amount being 1.5 GB. The concept of ‘Magic Data Voucher’ isn’t unique as the rivals Idea, Airtel and Vodafone are already offering such kind of packs to promote their high speed data services.

Aircel is offering higher data value of 15 GB in this pack compared to packs being offered by other GSM operators in the market which offer up to 10 GB data value. But the ground reality is that none of these packs offers sure benefits equivalent to the maximum data limit advertised.

Aircel Magic Data Voucher Details
Price Rs 248
Benefits 1.5 to 15 GB of 3G data
Validity 28 Days
Availability In key circles (eg – Kolkata)

However unlike other operators, Aircel’s ‘Magic Data Voucher’ is limited to key circles where they have 3G presence. So if you’re planning to make recharges with this pack, we would request you to contact Aircel Care first for further information regarding the offer as it might not be available in your circle.

I am talking only for Aircel Tamilnadu customers here. The benefits will vary for other circles.

Go to the recharge page (not new recharge page) in the top right side of the aircel.com and then recharge.

It gives Rs.104 main account talk value, 104 all India SMS and 1 GB data for 30 days at Rs.204 for Tamilnadu customers. It gives Rs.353 main account talk value, 399 all India SMS, 3 GB data for 60 days.

It gives Rs.153 main account talk value, 283 all India SMS, 2 GB data for 30 days with Rs.283 recharge.

In Kolkata Aircel rocks!!! As well as 3G and 2G… though 3G network coverage is not upto AVoId… but it is very good. And the call quality is also very good.

How is BSNL and Idea there?. Does Idea have 3G and 4G coverage?.

If you call a Kolkata mobile number from West Bengal using Kolkata SIM, will you be charged home network rates (I mean RLH like Chennai and Tamilnadu)?.

BSNl is crap here. Mainly government staffs uses BSNL.
Idea is good now a days but they don’t have own 3g in RoWB. I think except tata docomo all operator treats kolkata & west bengal as home circle.
Best mobile operator here is Vodafone in terms of customer base, customer service, call connectivity, etc. Vodafone have the most numbers of bts here too.
AIRCEL expanded their 3g last 3/4 month & their service is now very good at city.

In RoWB also AIRCEL call quality is better than airtel. Only problem with AIRCEL is less coverage in rural areas.

In Kolkata Aircel is not very much cheap… like the RC 7 in lucknow is RC 55 in kolkata… here for 3 months calling rate cutter to other network is RC 61 where in lucknow it is may be RC 3 or RC 4 is saw in their website… obviously their network is better in kolkata than lucknow… but there was a time in Kolkata when aircel was very poor network in 2014 and their rate cutter was cheap like lucknow… right now Tata is very good network in Kolkata with better network and cheaper tariff than Aircel… I saw… Read more »

Same here, I never get above 12 KB/s download on BSNL 3G. Horrible service. I think for BSNL 3=2.

March 9, 2016 10:38 pm 10:38 PM

Sorry sunny bhai i forgot voda….
Voda provides superfast speed in near inox mall … 10-12 mbps

March 9, 2016 11:15 pm 11:15 PM

Yes, VIP area mein toh speed achchhi aayegi hi, lol. But even in other areas speed has improved now, I’ve got 8 Mbps near IT and at night you can get around 5 in many other areas now. Where did you find BSNL giving good speeds BTW? I could never get even 256 Kbps …

March 10, 2016 12:36 am 12:36 AM

Come indira nagar sector 24,25,23,18,16,17, bhootnath market and many places like badshah nagar u get 3-6 mbps sometimes… Otherwise less than 600 kbps

March 10, 2016 12:09 pm 12:09 PM

Okay, lucky ppl there. Maybe I live in a BSNL dead zone. Good that JIO planted a tower in my locality.

March 9, 2016 3:58 pm 3:58 PM

How did you forget Vodafone, which had the best coverage and speeds in Lucknow? Here are the stats for 3G in the city:

March 10, 2016 11:38 am 11:38 AM

I think Vodafone provides best 3G speeds across UPE. I am currently roaming with my Vodafone delhi number here and call quality and 3G speeds are great. Overall, its a good operator here. BSNL? LOL- even google doesn’t open here after 11AM. Idea 3G has balanced speed and awesome 3G coverage.

March 10, 2016 12:06 pm 12:06 PM

Yes, UPE is a huge circle when it comes to number of subscribers and Vodafone more or less rules the roost. Initially in the early days of mobiles, it was Essar, then later on Hutch and eventually Vodafone now. People have had a good relationship with all these providers here and have stuck with them. So much that other new private players haven’t been able to make much of a headway in UPE except Airtel.
