jio says took several actions to make

Reliance Jio, India's largest telecom operator, said that it has taken several actions to make its system safer for consumers since August. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) along with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has instructed the telcos to make their systems safer for the users. Indian consumers have long been scammed by fraudsters through spam SMSes and calls.

"Since early August, we have taken several actions, as service providers, in collaboration with the government, and we have blocked a lot of numbers to make the system safer. All this has been possible because of the efforts and portals developed by DoT and we are sure that the complaints will reduce further going ahead. We are also blocking messages which are not whitelisted and I expect this to limit frauds," said U.K. Srivastava, President, Reliance Jio.

Bharti Airtel has also geared up its networks to protect users from spam calls and SMSes. Airtel recently announced the integration of its AI solution in the networks that alerts the customers about suspected spam calls and texts in real time.

The telecom operators have also implemented the system to whitelist SMSes from enterprises carrying OTT links, URLs, and APKs. This is still being implemented at a larger scale and should contribute to making the telecom world a safer experience for consumers.

"The DoT has taken multiple initiatives to protect cyberspace but despite that, cybercrimes are only increasing. Every day we find people losing money and we are trying to ascertain why this is taking place. Sim card fraud is another challenge we are facing in the ecosystem," said Lt Gen M U Nair, National Cybersecurity Coordinator (NCSC).
