Qualcomm has just announced the Qualcomm Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 chipset in India. It is worth noting that the 's' branded chips stand at the bottom level in the performance charge. So the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 ranks behind the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2. However, the chipset is not just geared for performance, it is geared for allowing OEMs (original equipment makers) to offer super affordable 5G phones in India. Phones with this chipset can be priced under Rs 10000 and offer customers 5G. This is a development that not only smartphone users will like, but will also be appreciated by the likes of Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 SoC

Qualcomm Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 SoC is built on the 64-bit architecture featuring a Qualcomm Kyro CPU with eight cores. There are six efficiency cores and two performance cores. The six efficiency cores are clocked at 1.8 GHz and the two performance cores are clocked at 2 GHz. There's Adreno GPU with support for OpenGL ES 3.2, Vulkan 1.1 and OpenCL 2.0 APIs.

The chip is built on 4nm process. Note that the devices that will run on this chipset can only have up to LPDDR4x RAM, which is decent as the devices are expected to be pretty cheap. Xiaomi is going to be the first OEM (original equipment maker) to bring this chip to their phones in India by the end of this year. The storage that this chip can support is UFS 3.1.

The chipset will enable the smartphones to support 90Hz refresh rate and FHD+ resolution. Further, the 12-bit Spectra Image Signal Processor (ISP) will support up to 84MP single camera sensors, with options for features such as electronic image stabilisation (EIS) and Multi Frame Noise Reduction (MFNR).
