Indian telecommunications company Bharti Airtel has been awarded a multi-year contract by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) to serve as the network and connectivity partner for the Taxnet-2.0 program. The formal Letter of Award was presented to Bharti Airtel by CBDT, and the Letter of Acceptance has been issued by Bharti Airtel to CBDT. The ceremony was attended by Sunil Bharti Mittal, Founder and Chairman of Bharti Enterprises, and Ravi Agarwal, Chairman of CBDT.

Airtel's Role in Taxnet-2.0
Under this contract, Airtel will provide robust dual connectivity using Software Defined Network for WAN and Secure LAN, among other technology solutions, to modernise the system for collecting, processing, monitoring, and accounting of direct taxes. This partnership extends Airtel’s role, which began in 2008 with Taxnet-1.0, into the next phase of CBDT’s technological advancement.
Philanthropic Initiative
In other news this week, Bharti Airtel Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Bharti Enterprises celebrating its 25th anniversary, has launched the ‘Bharti Airtel Scholarship Program’ with the aim of annually empowering 4,000 students with an outlay of over Rs 100 crore. This merit-cum-means-based scholarship program aims to support deserving students from diverse socio-economic backgrounds, with a particular focus on girl students.

Bharti Airtel Foundation announced that the first batch will support 250 students. The scholarships will be provided to students with an annual family income not exceeding Rs 8.5 lakh.
The Bharti Airtel Scholarships will focus on undergraduate and integrated courses in fields such as Electronics and Communication, Telecom, Information Technology, Computer Sciences, Data Sciences, and Emerging Technologies (AI, IoT, AR/VR, Machine Learning, Robotics) at the top 50 NIRF (Engineering) colleges.
