Poco F2 Mystery Leaves Fans Puzzled About Imminent Launch

If there is one phone which has been shrouded in extreme mystery this year, it is the Poco F2. Last year, Xiaomi brought to market a new sub-brand, Poco, which was to cater to performance focus smartphones with top specs. However, this year Xiaomi also introduced the Redmi K20 and the Redmi K20 Pro, two phones which come with premium specs and affordable price tag. This led to a lot of people to believe that the Poco F2 was not going to come to India. However, Xiaomi India, Marketing Head, Anuj Sharma denied the claim that the Poco series was done with. Now, this has again fuelled chatters across the internet which claim that the Poco F2 is real.

Rumours Surrounding Poco F2

The first wave of rumours about the Poco F1 had started hitting the headlines when Qualcomm announced its top-end processor back in December 2018. That time, it was speculated that the Poco F2 would do something like the Poco F1 and it would come with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 855. But then, this year in July, Xiaomi announced that it would bring the Redmi K20 Pro with the same chipset which was speculated to arrive in Poco F2. This news ended the rumours about Poco F2 packing the top-end Snapdragon 855.

Not only this, when the Redmi K20 and the Redmi K20 Pro were launched in China, there were rumours that these two phones would be rebranded as the Poco F2 for the India launch. But, even that did not happen to the disappointment of Poco fans. After the launch of the Redmi flagship phone in India, several research analysts also claimed that Xiaomi would stop the Poco line-up, but the statement from Xiaomi India Marketing Head led towards a different conclusion.

Poco F2's Likely Launch Date and Pricing

In an interview to 91mobiles, Anuj Sharma said, "India Poco has its own team, it's not managed by Xiaomi India. Xiaomi manages Mi & Redmi series Poco was made to remain independent. Poco uses Xiaomi's services like logistics, support etc. Poco has its own product strategy. Right now Poco is too small & their focus is still on Poco F1."

Now the question remains, when exactly is Poco going to debut the Poco F2. To answer that question, we will have to closely read the statement by the Xiaomi exec, which says that the Poco team is still focusing on the Poco F1. This means that it is possible that the Poco F2 launch might get postponed to the last quarter of the 2019 calendar year. In fact, the launch might be pushed to 2020 as well. To recall, the Poco F2 was launched in August last year. Some of the leaks about the Poco F2 had detailed that the phone would sport a higher screen-to-body ratio, come with an AMOLED panel and would also feature a waterdrop notch. As for the pricing, the device is expected to be priced around Rs 22,000 to Rs 25,000, thus bridging the gap between the Redmi K20 and the Redmi K20 Pro.
