Xiaomi Launches Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro Smartphones in India: Price, Specifications and More

At an event in New Delhi, Chinese smartphone brand, Xiaomi, took wraps off the much-anticipated Redmi K20 series. The Redmi K20 series comes in two variants- the standard K20 and the flagship Redmi K20 Pro. The Redmi K20 is a mid-range smartphone taking on the phones priced below Rs 20,000, while the Redmi K20 Pro is a smartphone that takes on the OnePlus 7 and Asus 6Z which also ship with the same Snapdragon 855 chipset. The Redmi K20 Pro sports a unique design, offers triple rear cameras and also has a beefy 4000mAh battery. Last year's Poco F1 had compromises in the design department, but that's not the case with the Redmi K20 Pro as the phone is a complete value for money flagship smartphone on paper.




Xiaomi Redmi K20 Pro: Specifications and Features

Like several other smartphones releasing these days, the Redmi K20 Pro also sports a glass back, but the gradient design on the handset is unique when compared to others. The phone weighs 191 grams because of the glass back. Also, there's a pop-up selfie camera for those who're wondering, so the screen-to-body ratio will be high on this device. On the display front, the Redmi K20 Pro rocks a 6.39-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED panel that also houses an in-display fingerprint scanner. It's the first Xiaomi phone in India to ship with the in-display fingerprint sensor.

Talking about the hardware, the Redmi K20 Pro is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset, paired with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. There's no microSD card slot for storage expansion, but on the brighter side, the K20 Pro has a 3.5mm headphone jack. Xiaomi also confirmed that the Redmi K20 Pro has eight-layer cooling that keeps the device cool during intensive gaming sessions.

The Redmi K20 Pro sports three cameras on the back; A 48MP Sony IMX586 primary sensor works in tandem with a 13MP ultra-wide lens and 8MP telephoto lens. This camera setup is pretty much identical to the ones present on the OnePlus 7 Pro. On the front, there's a pop-up selfie camera housing a 20MP shooter. Xiaomi will also be providing a software-based wide-angle mode.

Connectivity options on the K20 Pro include Dual 4G, VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS and GLONASS. Lastly, the K20 Pro is backed by a 4000mAh battery with 27W fast charging support. Xiaomi says the Redmi K20 Pro charges from 0% to 58% in just 30 minutes and offers 10+ hours of battery life with just 15 minutes of charge. Both the phones ship with 18W charger inside the retail box.

Alongside the Redmi K20 Pro, Xiaomi also launched the Redmi K20 in the sub-continent. The Redmi K20 comes powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 chipset built on the all-new 7nm process. The K20 features the similar Aura Prime design as the Redmi K20 Pro and comes in three colour options- Flame Red, Carbon Black and Glacier Blue.

The cameras remain the same and it also comes with a 4000mAh battery unit. However, the Redmi K20 supports only 18W fast charging, unlike the Redmi K20 Pro.

Xiaomi Redmi K20, Redmi K20 Pro Pricing and Availability in India

The Redmi K20 Pro takes on the OnePlus 7 and the Asus 6Z in India. The OnePlus 7 starts at Rs 32,999 whereas the Asus 6Z is currently retailing for Rs 31,999. The Redmi K20 Pro is an interesting handset and thanks to its pricing, the phone gains an upper hand compared to the OnePlus 7 and Asus 6Z. Xiaomi stated that the Redmi K20 series would be Made in India and 65% value of the phones come from India.

The Xiaomi Redmi K20 Pro comes in two variants- 6GB+128GB and 8GB+256GB and there's no 6GB+64GB variant as expected. The price of the 8GB+256GB variant is Rs 30,999, whereas the 6GB+128GB will retail for Rs 27,999.

The Redmi K20, on the other hand, also comes in two variants- 6GB+64GB and 6GB+128GB. The price of the base variant is Rs 21,999, while the premium variant will be available for Rs 23,999. Every single unit of Redmi K20 and K20 Pro will come with ultra premium hard case inside the retail box.

For the Alpha sale buyers, the first sale of the phone will take place on July 17 at 8 PM. Other customers can pre-order the devices at Mi Home stores starting tomorrow. The first sale of the device will take place on Flipkart, Mi.com and Mi Home stores on July 22 at 12 PM.
