After rolling out the stable Android 9 Pie update to the Nokia 7 Plus, HMD Global has now released a beta update to the Nokia 6.1 Plus. In-line with its promise of rolling out the update to 6.1 Plus by the end of October, HMD has now started the beta programme under which it will be taking feedback from the users. The Android 9 Pie Beta update on Nokia 6.1 Plus weighs 1258MB in size and it can be installed both via over-the-air method. Do make a note that this is a beta update, so you may encounter some issues post the installation. Read on to know how to install the update on your Nokia 6.1 Plus.
Nokia 6.1 Plus Android 9 Beta Update: What's New?
We have installed the Android 9 Pie Beta update on our Nokia 6.1 Plus review unit and it brought all the features which Google introduced. For starters, the update comes with a new version number of 3.25B and weighs 1258MB in size. Coming to the features, it adds the gesture navigation system, revamped Settings app and notification drawer, along with other major changes to brightness and battery modes.
The update also brought along October 2018 security patches, which so far HMD did not roll out to any other smartphone. The gesture navigation worked well during our brief usage.
Nokia 6.1 Plus Android 9 Pie Beta Update: How to Install
The update installation process is very simple because HMD has rolled it out via OTA. First of all, head over to the Nokia Beta Labs programme website and register yourself to get the OTA update. After registration, scroll down and attach your device to your account. The website didn't detect my Nokia 6.1 Plus automatically even though the email ID was logged in my phone, but you can easily add by entering the IMEI number along with your carrier and country.
After attaching your device, you'll be presented with an update with OTA option, expand that option and hit the Request for OTA update option. After requesting the OTA, head over to your phone's About Phone section and manually check for a software update. In my case, the update showed after hitting the 'Check for Update' button twice, but mostly, it'll appear right away. If you did not receive the update even after hitting multiple times, then wait for some time as it might up to 12 hours to reach your phone.
Since the Nokia 6.1 Plus supports seamless updates, the update will be installed in the background itself. And all you have to do it wait for the installation to finish and hit the restart button. Do make a note you can easily revert back to Android 8.1 Oreo build by requesting the Revert OTA update under the same website.
