Xiaomi Mi A2 to Make its Debut in India Today: Everything You Need to Know

The Chinese tech giant Xiaomi is all set to launch its latest Android One offering in India which has been rebranded as the Xiaomi Mi A2. The phone initially launched in China as the Mi 6X, and it is now making its way to the Indian market with the launch which is scheduled to happen at 4 PM today. The device will be the successor to the Mi A1 which was previously launched in the sub-continent. With this new series of smartphones, Xiaomi has started offering stock Android experience in the country. Also, the phone was first unveiled in Spain, and the 4GB+64GB variant will begin retailing first after the today’s launch. Another thing to note is that the device will be an Amazon exclusive handset.

Xiaomi Mi A2 Launch Live Stream Details
The Mi A2 launch has been scheduled for later today. The event, which is taking place in New Delhi, will kickstart at 4 PM. Xiaomi stated the event would be live streamed across all its portals including Mi.com, YouTube, Facebook, etc. Xiaomi India also confirmed that it would be giving away 100 F-codes to purchase the Mi A2 if a user registers to watch the live stream of the handset on Mi India website.

The Xiaomi Mi A2 features a 5.99-inch Full HD+ (1080x2160 pixels) display with an 18:9 aspect ratio, 2.5D curved glass, and Gorilla Glass 5 for protection. Under the hood, it runs the Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC which comes accompanied by Adreno 512 GPU for graphics.

The phone also fares well as a useful camera device with the rear setup comprising of 12MP Sony IMX486 with f/1.75 aperture and 1.25-micron pixels, and a secondary 20MP Sony IMX376 sensor with f/1.75 aperture and a 2-micron 4-in-1 Super Pixel size. The camera on the back side comes equipped with dual-tone LED flash and PDAF.

On the front, for selfies, the Mi A2 sports a 20MP Sony IMX376 selfie camera with f/1.75 aperture, fixed focal length, and a soft-LED flash. The battery on the device is a 3010mAh one which comes with the Quick Charge 4 technology for fast-charging support in India. The phone boots Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box with Android One certification from Google meaning that the phone will be eligible for monthly security updates and patches.

Connectivity options on the phone include 4G LTE, Bluetooth v5.0, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Miracast, an IR emitter, and USB Type-C. There is no 3.5mm headphone jack on the Xiaomi Mi A2. Sensors on the handset include an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, gyroscope, and proximity sensor.

Xiaomi Mi A2 Pricing and Availability
The Xiaomi Mi A2’s pricing remains shrouded in mystery as of now. However, looking at the international pricing of the phone which was announced to be EUR 279 (about Rs 22,500) for the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant and EUR 349 (about Rs 28,000) for the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage option, it can be said that the phone will sell around the same price point only. Also, just the 4GB+64GB variant will be launched in India today while the higher end 6GB+64GB variant will probably make its entry into the market later.

According to an Amazon India pre-order listing, the Mi A2's 4GB+64GB variant will retail for Rs 17,499 in India, but most likely, the device could be priced at Rs 16,999 or Rs 17,999.
