Xiaomi Mi A2 Android One Smartphone to Launch as an Amazon Exclusive

The next Android One device in Xiaomi’s portfolio, the Mi A2 is all set to launch next month in India. Xiaomi has already sent out the media invites for the launch event of the Xiaomi Mi A2 which has been scheduled for August 8. The phone has already launched globally in Spain, and we know now that it is the rebranded version of the Mi 6X which launched in China earlier. The new Mi A2 furthers the line-up of Android One smartphones started by Mi A1 last year and this time it comes with the latest Android 8.1 Oreo. The phone has climbed to receive massive hype right ahead of its launch in India. Amazon India has also put up a dedicated page for Xiaomi Mi A2 where users can sign in to receive updates about the phone’s launch. The e-commerce giant has also dropped some tidbits about the new phone along with the processor, memory and camera specs.

The handset is expected to go live for sale a week after the launch. It will be up for grabs on Xiaomi’s Mi.com and Amazon as well. Also, it has been hinted that the phone will come in only the 4GB and 64GB variant as the entry-level model in India. The 4GB and 32GB RAM variant won’t make its way to the Indian market. Xiaomi Mi A2 buyers will also have four colour options to choose from Gold, Black, Blue and a newly added Rose Gold.

The Xiaomi Mi A2 boasts of a 5.99-inch Full HD+ (1080×2160 pixels) display with an 18:9 aspect ratio protected by 2.5D curved glass, and Gorilla Glass 5. The phone packs an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC accompanied by the Adreno 512 GPU for graphics.

The phone might also fare as an impressive camera device as it sports a dual rear camera setup comprising of 12MP Sony IMX486 with f/1.75 aperture and 1.25-micron pixels, and a 20MP secondary Sony IMX376 sensor with f/1.75 aperture and a 2-micron 4-in-1 Super Pixel size. There is a dual-tone LED flash and PDAF which accompanies the dual rear setup. For selfies, the phone rocks a 20MP Sony IMX376 with f/1.75 aperture, fixed focal length, and a soft-LED flash. Also, the Mi A2 does not come with a 3.5mm headphone jack. On the software front, the phone boots optimised stock version of Android 8.1 Oreo, certified by Google’s Android One programme.

The connectivity options on the phone include 4G LTE, Bluetooth v5.0, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Miracast, an IR emitter, and USB Type-C. Sensors on the handset include an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, gyroscope, and proximity sensor. A 3010mAh battery powers the device

Xiaomi Mi A2 Pricing

Xiaomi launched the Mi A2 in Spain at the price of EUR 249 (roughly Rs 20,100) for the 4GB RAM and 32GB storage variant. However, we know that this variant isn’t going to launch in India. The new variant, which is the 4GB RAM and 64GB storage option, bears a price tag of EUR 279 (roughly Rs 22,500), and the 6GB RAM and 128GB storage option costs EUR 349 (around Rs 28,100). However, given the exchange rates, it is quite possible that the phone might be priced slightly lesser in India.

The pricing will be the key factor. They are seeking note 5 pro for 15k, so I guess anything above 18k will not cut ice. Slightly better CPU and improved camera but lesser battery. Indian buyer may not pay more than 2-3k premium for these.

This is very bad business strategy. MiA1 was Flipkart exclusive so no one can buy MiA2 with the buyback value of MiA1. Even I was thinking to buy MiA2 with the buyback value (Rs. 7000) Flipkart is giving for my old MiA1.
