One of the major features missing on the Nokia 7 Plus was the dual 4G connectivity. Even though the chipset has support for it, HMD Global disabled it for some unknown reasons. However, with the latest May 2018 security update, the company has added the feature to both the Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 6 (2018) smartphones, allowing the users to use 4G networks on both SIM cards. Earlier, HMD Global's CPO Juho Sarvikas confirmed the dual 4G functionality for the 7 Plus, but the support comes as a surprise for the Nokia 6 (2018). The updates are currently being rolled out in India. The Nokia 7 Plus users in India with model number TA-1046 while the Nokia 6 (2018) users with model number TA-1089 will receive an OTA update in the next few days.

The craze for dual 4G smartphones is increasing with every passing day and manufacturers are looking to offer it to the users. The dual 4G and VoLTE supported smartphone list is very small at the moment, but it's expected to grow in the coming months. The cheapest smartphone with dual 4G/VoLTE support is the recently launched Oppo Realme 1, which is powered by the MediaTek Helio P60 SoC. Other smartphones such as the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1, Oppo F7, Honor View 10, Huawei P20 Pro also comes with dual 4G support. Xiaomi, with the Android 8.1 Oreo update is also expected to enable the feature on the Redmi Note 5 Pro, which is powered by the Snapdragon 636 SoC.

Talking about the May 2018 security update on the Nokia 7 Plus, the changelog did not mention anything about the Dual 4G feature addition. In the changelog, HMD mentioned that the new OTA update brings user interface enhancements, improved system stability and Android 8.1 Oreo upgrade. For those who're worried, the new update takes the version number to 2.22A from 2.13B. And the update weighs 441.7MB.

Coming to the Nokia 6 (2018), the changelog here doesn't mention about the dual 4G addition. The update with version number 2.22A also has the same changelog and weighs 460.4MB in size. Furthermore, the update also adds the Smart Face feature to the Smart Lock menu, which isn't the Face Unlock feature HMD promised, but it has been added with the May 2018 update.

The update has already started rolling out in India for both the smartphones. If you've received the update, do let us know about the dual 4G functionality by commenting below. If not, check for the update manually by heading over to the System Updates section under About Phone menu in the Settings app. The update is an incremental one, so it might reach your device in the next couple of days.
