Sony Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact Smartphones With Full-Screen Display and Glass Back Leaked

Sony is possibly the only Tier 1 smartphone brand yet to adopt the current 18:9 display trend, but that's going to change this Sunday as the company will be launching two new flagship smartphones dubbed Sony Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact. And both these smartphones will mark the company's foray into the bezel-less design trend and yes, they'll sport glass body instead of the metal body like earlier Sony smartphones. But Sony is not yet looking at dual camera setup on its devices, which is a letdown, but Sony is known for pulling off something incredible every year at the MWC 2018. But this around, the company is not planning for any new camera tricks, but instead the upcoming XZ2 and XZ2 Compact focuses on design.

Leaked by Venture Beat's Evan Blass, he received the information about both the phones from a person who used the phones. As per the report, the bigger Xperia XZ2 will ship with a 5.7-inch 18:9 display, while the XZ2 Compact will have the same 18:9 5-inch display. That said, the XZ2 Compact will be even more compact than earlier Sony Xperia Compact phones. Both the phones will have a Full HD+ display. And they both will be powered by the Qualcomm's Snapdragon 845 chipset, which is also said to be powering the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+. They will boot Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box, which isn't surprising as Sony has launched phones with Oreo at the IFA 2017 event itself.

The Xperia XZ2 will have a glass back and metal frame around the sides. And both the front and rear glass will come with Gorilla Glass 5 protection. The XZ2 Compact, as per the report, will arrive with non-scratch polycarbonate finish. Both the phones will be made available in four colour options- black, silver, green, and pink.

Cameras have been a major attraction in Sony smartphones, but this time around, the company is planning to use the same camera setup as last year's Xperia XZ Premium. The Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact will have a 19MP rear camera with f/1.8 aperture, and the camera will be capable of recording 4K HDR videos & insane 960fps slow-motion videos. The camera module design will be slightly different on both the phones though.

The Xperia XZ2, being a bigger model will get additional features such as stereo speakers (Sony will call them as S Force speakers) and wireless charging. The XZ2 will ship with a 3180mAh battery with USB Type-C port and wireless charging, while the smaller device will ship with a 2870mAh battery. Pricing details will be revealed at the MWC 2018 event, but the availability of the phones will be from March. The bigger Xperia XZ2 will come to the Indian market later.
