With Xiaomi Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus smartphones launch around the corner, the Chinese manufacturer is in overdrive to promote the smartphone. Xiaomi has remained mum on the specs and pricing so far, barring some key confirmations such as the 18:9 display, MIUI 9, and a massive battery. However, a recent leak revealed the prices of the upcoming smartphones.

The Redmi 5 price will start at $199.99 (roughly Rs. 12,900) for the 2GB RAM and 16GB storage model, according to an AliExpress listing. Similarly, the Redmi 5 Plus is pegged at $249.99 (approximately Rs. 16,120) for the 3GB RAM and 32GB storage option, the listing revealed. Both the phones will come in Black, Blue, Gold, and Pink colour options, it mentions, which is also confirmed by Xiaomi officially.

The highlight of both smartphones is the bezel-less display with tall 18:9 aspect ratio. So far, leaks have suggested that the Redmi 5 will feature a 5.7-inch HD+ display with 720 x 1440 resolution. The Redmi 5 Plus will feature a 5.9-inch Full HD+ display with 1080 x 2160 resolution.

The smartphones may be available in three different storage options. These are 2GB RAM plus 16GB storage, 3GB RAM and 32GB storage, and 4GB RAM plus 64GB internal storage. AliExpress listed only the 2GB and 3GB variants on its website. It is also said that the Redmi 5 Plus will arrive in just two variants- 3GB+32GB and 4GB+64GB.

Apart from that, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 will be powered by the 1.8GHz processor, which might well be the Snapdragon 450 SoC. The Redmi 5 Plus, on the flip side, might come with Snapdragon 625 SoC on board.

Coming to optics, there is a 12MP sensor on the rear and 5MP front camera on both the smartphones. The Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus will also come with the latest MIUI 9 out of the box, which is already confirmed by Xiaomi in the MIUI forums.

When it comes to battery, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 is expected to feature a smaller 3200mAh battery under the hood, which is significantly smaller than the 4100mAh unit seen on the Redmi 4 and Redmi 3s smartphones. The Redmi 5 Plus might get a beefy 4000mAh battery unit. It' sad to see Xiaomi decreasing the battery capacities in its smartphones.

Xiaomi’s Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus is scheduled for December 7 and the company is expected to bring the new devices to India soon after the launch. The Redmi 5 Plus may not hit the Indian shores, but the Redmi 5 will succeed the successful Redmi 4 smartphone in the Indian market.
