With the new year around the corner, Samsung plans to overhaul its Galaxy A series lineup completely. In one of the major leaks a new Samsung model - Samsung Galaxy A8+ (2018) was spotted online. A couple of leaked images on Chinese microblogging site Weibo reveal a smartphone with model number SM-730.
The details from the About Phone section in the Settings app clearly reveal the name as Galaxy A8+ (2018), while the model number is shown as SM-A730F. This provides confirmation that the captured device is indeed the successor to the current Galaxy A7 (2017).
One of the major changes in the new Samsung Galaxy A8+ is Infinity Display as confirmed by the leak. Earlier leaks revealed that the A8+ would come with 5.7-inch Super AMOLED bezel-less Infinity display. The display is said to come with a screen resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels and 18:9 aspect ratio. As such there will be no home button and fingerprint sensor has been moved to the rear of the device. Unlike other Samsung Infinity display devices, the Galaxy A8+ display doesn’t wrap around the long edges of the device.
Apart from Infinity display, another USP of Galaxy A8+ is dual rear camera setup. While details aren’t clear yet, rumours suggest a 16MP+16MP setup with dual tone LED flash. On the front, there is going to be another 16MP sensor. Sadly there are no pictures to confirm this rumour.
Under the hood, the A8+ will pack an octa-core 2.1 GHz Exynos 7885 processor coupled with 4GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. Besides, rumours also suggest a Snapdragon 630 powered version of the smartphone for some specific regions. In addition, the Galaxy A8+ is said to come in a higher RAM configuration model of 6GB RAM and 64GB storage, apart from the standard 4GB RAM and 32GB model. Also, the device will support the expansion of storage is available via microSD card slot.
The smartphone will also come with other premium features like IP68 certification for dust and water resistance, Samsung Pay and USB Type-C port.
The Galaxy A8+ will pack a 3600mAh battery and mostly it will ship with Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box, with the Oreo update slated at a later date. Pricing details of the smartphone remain unclear at this point.
