HMD Global, the parent of Nokia Mobiles today announced a premium variant of the Nokia 5 smartphone in the country. The Nokia 5 will be available in a new 3GB RAM variant staring November 7. Until November 14, the Nokia 5 3GB RAM variant will be exclusive to e-commerce portal Flipkart, and after that, it will be available across all the major offline retail stores.
Earlier in June 2017, HMD Global has announced three Nokia phones- the Nokia 3, the Nokia 5, and the Nokia 6. The Nokia 5 is priced between the Nokia 3 and the Nokia 6 at Rs. 12,899. However, the device went on for sale in August 2017, almost two months after the launch.
The Nokia 5 is also known as a watered down version of the Nokia 6 in terms of hardware. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chipset, and the earlier launched variant came with 2GB of RAM on board. Sadly, both the 2GB RAM and the newly launched 3GB RAM variants have the same 16GB of internal storage. The internal storage in the Nokia 5 can be expanded up to 128GB with a microSD card.
Other specifications of the Nokia 5 include a 5.2-inch HD display on the front, and it even has a fingerprint scanner placed below the display flanked by two hardware keys- back and recent apps. The 5.2-inch display has a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, 2.5D curved glass, and also protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass technology.
The smartphone has all the sensors such as the Ambient light sensor, Proximity sensor, Accelerometer (G-sensor), E-compass, and Gyroscope. Connectivity options in the smartphone include 4G LTE, VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, and USB OTG. Sadly, the Nokia 5 has a micro USB port.
Camera wise, the Nokia 5 rocks a 13MP sensor at the back, and a 5MP sensor on the front for selfies and video calls. The devices measure 8.05mm in thickness and it's backed by a 3000mAh battery.
The software is one of the major strengths of the Nokia mobiles. The Nokia 5 runs Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box, and HMD has already confirmed the Android Oreo update to the Nokia 5 before the end of 2017. This dual-SIM smartphone will be one among the budget smartphones to receive Android Oreo update.
