Xiaomi continues to rule the budget smartphone market in India with its impressive smartphones and their equally impressive price tags. The Chinese company’s Redmi Note 4 has continued to be a best seller even after months since it was launch in the country earlier this year. Yu, an online subsidiary of Micromax, has recently jumped on the budget bandwagon and released its sixth smartphone under the Yureka lineup, named the Yu Yureka 2.

With newer budget smartphones like the Yureka 2 getting on the shelf, will the Redmi Note 4 continue to hold up? Let’s find out.

Design and Display

The Yu Yureka 2 offers an immersive viewing experience with its 5.5-inch Full-HD display while its sturdy body and compact size offer a good grip. The Redmi Note 4 comes with a full metal body with 2.5D curved glass and polished antenna lines thrown into the mix. It sports a 5.5-inch Full-HD display as well.

Hardware

The Redmi Note 4 is powered by a 2.0 GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor paired with an Adreno 506 GPU. The phone is available in three storage options of 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, and 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The Yu Yureka 2, on the other hand, also wraps-in the Snapdragon 625 chipset under the hood, clubbed with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard memory.

Software

The Yu Yureka 2 runs on the older Android Marshmallow 6.0 while the Redmi Note 4 recently received Android Nougat based MIUI 8 update. Also, the MIUI 9 is already out for the Redmi Note 4 as a Global Beta version. Both the devices support 4G LTE and dual-SIM capabilities as well as the standard connectivity options such as Wi-Fi 802.11, Bluetooth, GPS, and micro USB port for external media sharing.

Camera

The Redmi Note 4 sports a 13MP primary camera with f/2.0 aperture and LED flash on the rear while a 5MP snapper sits on the front for selfies and video calls. The Yu Yureka 2 packs a better 16MP rear camera with night-mode, multi-shots, and LED flash along with an 8MP front-facing camera for selfies.

Battery and Pricing

The Redmi Note 4 comes with a sturdy 4100mAh battery that keeps the phone up and running for a full day on regular use. Meanwhile, the Yu Yureka 2 is backed by a 3,930mAh battery with Qualcomm 3.0 Quick Charge technology. The Yureka 2 is now available online at a price of Rs. 11,999. The Redmi Note 4 comes with a price tag of Rs. 9,999 for its base model and ranges up to Rs. 12,999 for its 4GB variant.

Verdict

Both the Redmi Note 4 and the Yureka 2 hold their own in several aspects including storage, display, and pricing. However, if you are looking for the Xiaomi’s MIUI touch and a bigger battery, Redmi Note 4 is the phone for you. Having said that, the Yu Yureka 2 takes the cake when it comes to the camera department.
