Xiaomi yesterday announced the Mi Max 2 smartphone in India at Rs. 16,999. The smartphone comes preloaded with MIUI 8 based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat, and the Chinese company has announced the much-awaited Split Screen Mode for the Mi Max 2 users.
Although, the feature at the moment, is available with the MIUI 8 Global Beta ROM 7.7.13 version. However, the device comes preinstalled with a stable version of the MIUI 8, which doesn't have the Split Screen mode feature. But, you can install the beta ROM by downloading it from the MIUI forums page.
As said earlier, the Split Screen feature comes with the MIUI 8 Global Beta ROM 7.7.13 and you need to install the ROM manually. Thankfully, Xiaomi released both the fastboot and recovery versions of the said ROM for Mi Max 2. So, you can download the ROM and install it via the updater application.
1) Download the MIUI 8 Global Beta ROM 7.7.13 ROM by heading over to the MIUI Forums page.
2) Download the Recovery version of the ROM. If you're downloading it on your smartphone, just select the path where you have downloaded the file in the updater app. If you're downloading it via PC, transfer the ROM to the internal storage and follow the procedure.
3) Open Updater App> Hit the three dots icon on top> Select the Download package.
The update will be installed, and it may take up to 15 minutes to finish the installation. After that, press the recent apps button, and you can notice the split screen text on the top left corner.
How to use the Split Screen Feature?
Enter "Recent Apps" mode by a tap on your Menu key button, tap on "Split Screen Mode" at the top left. Choose the app you want to split from the recent apps, then drag it onto the upper part. That's it; you can use two apps simultaneously now.
How to Exit Split Screen
Enter "Recent Apps" mode again, and you will notice there is an "Exit Split Screen" soft button on top of the screen. Tap it, and that's it! You may also drag the border between the split screens to the most top/bottom to exit split screen.
Having said that, the feature is still in the development stage, and the apps supported for split screen mode are limited at the moment. Also, do make a note that the MIUI 8 Global Beta ROM 7.7.13 ROM is available for few more devices such as Xiaomi Mi 5, Mi Max 32GB, Redmi 3s, Redmi Note 3 (Qualcomm), Redmi Note 4/4X Qualcomm. But, I'm not sure whether the split screen mode is available for these devices. That said, if you have any of the said devices, and installed the MIUI 8 Global Beta ROM 7.7.13 ROM, do let us know whether the feature is available or not.
