The Moto E4 and the Moto E4 Plus arrived in India yesterday amidst much fanfare, with the launch event live-streamed by thousands. Starting with the obvious, the Moto E4 Plus is the larger one of the two and is already up for sale exclusively on Flipkart. On the other hand the Moto E4, albeit smaller, shares more than a few similarities with the E4 Plus and is set to go on sale via offline retailers starting today.

In the wake of Motorola announcing the new E4 and the E4 Plus smartphones in the country, many of you must be confused as to which of these E-series siblings would be the better option for you to get hold of. So we came up with a comparison to help you understand how the two smartphones fair against each other.

Design and Display

The Moto E4 and the Moto E4 Plus are quite alike in terms of design. Both the phones come with a metal body with antenna bands running through the rear panel, and an oval home button below the display up front. The camera and the LED flash setup take up the top portion of the rear panel.

As for the display, the Moto E4 Plus totes a 5.5-inch HD (720p) display while the Moto E4 sports a 5-inch HD (720p) display. The Moto E4 Plus comes with an additional 2.5D curved glass on top for display protection.

Hardware

When it comes to the hardware, both handsets are internally powered by a MediaTek MT6737 quad-core processor, clocked at 1.3GHz. The smaller Moto E4 comes with 2GB of RAM along with 16GB of onboard memory. On the other hand, the E4 Plus comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage. You get an option in both devices to expand the storage further up to 128GB via the microSD card slot.

Camera

In the photography segment, the E4 Plus features a larger 13MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, autofocus, and dual-tone LED flash. It can record videos in HD (720p) at 30fps. The front camera is a 5MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture. The Moto E4 bears an 8MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture and a LED flash, alongside a 5MP front-facing camera. The front cameras in both the devices come with a flash for selfies in low-light conditions.

Software

Both the E4 and the E4 Plus come with a fingerprint scanner integrated into the home button itself and feature water resistant nano-coating as well. The connectivity options on the two smartphones are same. These options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, dual SIM card slots, 3.5mm headphone jack, and 4G VoLTE compatibility. Both run on Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box.

Battery and Pricing

A 2,800mAh battery backs the Moto E4 but the Moto E4 Plus bags the prize in the battery department with its huge 5,000mAh battery under the hood. After all is said and done, it’s the cost of the smartphone that becomes quite the driving factor; The Moto E4 comes with a price tag of Rs. 8,999 and the Moto E4 Plus is available at the cost of Rs. 9,999.

Conclusion

The two phones have marginally few differences between them but very important ones at that. With its bigger battery, better camera and greater RAM, the Moto E4 Plus would be the perfect budget smartphone for you this month. Having said that, the Moto E4 is cheaper by 1000 bucks and in no way is any less of a contender.
