Xiaomi's upcoming phablet phone- the Mi Max 2 was officially confirmed to launch on May 25 i.e. tomorrow in China. The smartphone will be the successor to last year's Xiaomi Mi Max that impressed many with its performance but was let down by the subpar camera. The Mi Max 2 will see improvements in every aspect possible and rumours also suggest the same. Here's what to expect from the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 releasing tomorrow.
Refreshed Design
The Mi Max design was in line with Xiaomi's 2016 smartphones such as Redmi Note 3, and even I call it as a bigger variant of the Redmi Note 3. Today, a real life image of the Mi Max 2 surfaced online suggesting a premium look. The rear camera and the dual tone LED flashlight are placed at the right corner with a fingerprint scanner placed at the middle of the rear. The scanner is a shiny one, same as the one seen on LeEco phones.
The noticeable change is the antenna band setup. Yes, the Mi Max 2 will have antenna bands running around its top and bottom edges, same as the Apple iPhone 7 and other Chinese phones such as the Vivo V5 Plus. The frontal part of the phone hasn't just leaked yet.
Powerful Hardware
Speculations claim that Xiaomi will release two variants of the Mi Max 2- one with a Snapdragon 626 SoC, and the other one with a Snapdragon 660 SoC under-the-hood. The Snapdragon 626 variant will get 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, while the Snapdragon 660 option will come with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.
The Mi Max 2 will come with a USB Type-C port, as per a previously leaked image. Also, it will have dual-SIM card support, but it will be a hybrid setup. The Mi Max 2 will have the same display size of 6.4-inch, and the resolution will be 1080p.
Decent Camera
The Xiaomi Mi Max was a huge disappointment when it comes to camera aspect, and the Chinese company is looking to make a turnaround with the Mi Max 2. The device is rumoured to equip a Sony IMX378 sensor, which is the same sensor seen on devices such as the Google Pixel, Blackberry KEYone, etc. However, the sensor will be accompanied with a larger aperture size of f/2.2. So, there will be detailed shots this time around in good lighting conditions but the night shot images will surely disappoint. The handset will get a 5MP front-facing camera.
Software and Battery
The Xiaomi Mi Max arrived with a beefy 4850mAh battery, which was one of the biggest battery smartphones out there back then. And now, the Mi Max 2 may come equipped with a 5400mAh battery. Paired with the Snapdragon 660/Snapdragon 626 chipset, the Mi Max 2 will deliver incredible battery life. The phone will also support Qualcomm's Quick Charge technology. It will run MIUI 8 itself based on Android Nougat because MIUI 9 is not yet ready for public roll out.
Pricing
The Snapdragon 626 variant of the phone might cost 1499 Yuan (approx. Rs. 14,000), whereas the Snapdragon 660 SoC variant may set you back at 1699 Yuan (approx. Rs. 16,000).
