Gionee, back at the MWC 2017 event in Barcelona, Spain announced two smartphones, namely, the Gionee A1 and A1 Plus. The Chinese company today announced the Gionee A1 in India but did not reveal the price, though. After concentrating heavily on the battery centric devices with the Marathon series, Gionee shifted its focus towards selfie lovers with the 'S' series. And now, the company is looking to deliver camera and battery centric phones with the new 'A' series.
The USP of the Gionee A1 is its 16MP front-facing camera that comes with support for fixed focus, f/2.0 aperture, 5P lens, and also selfie flash. Also, the company has added a 13MP rear camera which supports for PDAF, f/2.0 aperture, and LED flash.
The Gionee A1 features a 5.5-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080×1920 pixels, which further extends to a pixel density of 401 PPI. At the heart of the phone, there's an octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 SoC with four Cortex A53 cores clocked at 2GHz and the other four Cortex A53 clocked at 1GHz. The Gionee A1 also has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of native storage and the storage can be further expandable up to 128GB via microSD card.
Connectivity-wise, the Gionee A1 comes with 4G LTE, VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11/b/g/n, Bluetooth, and GPS. The Gionee A1 has a micro USB 2.0 port. Incidentally, the A1 is the vendor's first smartphone to boot Android Nougat out-of-the-box and as expected there's a layer of Amigo UI on top. The phone is backed with 4010mAh battery and comes with fast charging technology.
However, the company did not disclose the pricing of the phone at the launch event, but some rumours were stating that the phone will cost Rs. 21,999 in India. Moreover, the Gionee A1 has rivals in the form of Oppo F1s, Vivo V5, and Vivo V5 Plus. The Vivo V5 and Oppo F1s are available below Rs. 20,000, but has relatively less powerful hardware and sub-par displays as well.
