After launching the new fibre-based broadband plans in Delhi, MTNL has now stopped taking new subscribers for the popular VDSL 4999 plan. However, it has launched a new VDSL plan priced at Rs. 2,490, which offers almost the same benefits and offers unlimited browsing (of course at a lower speed).

The new VDSL 2490 plan will offer the same speed of 10-20 Mbps. However, the MTNL authority has almost doubled the Fair Usage Limit to 125GB when compared to VDSL 4999 plan, which used to offer just 50GB FUP limit. Other charges remain unchanged in the new plan.

We can clearly say that the new plan offers maximum value for money as the new plan offers double the data than the old one at half the cost. However, when we contacted MTNL care, customer service representatives haven't shared whether old customers of VDSL Combo 4999 would migrate to the newer plan of VDSL Combo 2490 or not. We would request MTNL users of the old plan to contact the MTNL Delhi exchanges for switching to the plan.

BSNL is taking good steps to turn profitable. Loss making MTNL's Delhi unit is also trying to attract new users through the new plan. The upcoming 4G operator, Reliance JIO, would also offer FTTH Broadband at cheaper costs, so we have to wait few days to watch who wins customers' hearts.
