Taking cue from Xiaomi’s MIUI, Micromax is working on its own Android-based OS

Looks like Micromax is taking the due inspiration from Xiaomi when it comes to having its in-house operating system. A recent report by Economic Times states that the Indian manufacturer is planning to come with its own OS soon. Companies like Xiaomi have been running their in-house OS 'MIUI' since they first stepped into the smartphone arena.

MicromaxIn a conversation with Economic Times, Vikas Jain, Micromax Co-founder said that the company has plans to come up with its own version of Android OS. The forthcoming OS will feature plenty of services and apps that will be compatible with a variety of devices by Micromax such as phones, tablets, televisions and smartwatches.




The company is working towards making the upcoming OS ideal for all platforms, even the wearables. Also, the apps and services created for the new OS will be provided to the YU series of phones as well. Micromax’s software wing in Bangalore is working on the upcoming OS and around 75 of the employees in the design teams have been hired from Nokia’s R&D centre in Beijing, as per the report.

All the developers will be able to export their apps on to the new OS, and Micromax will soon reveal the other details about the upcoming OS. Vikas Jain also revealed that the first device based on the new OS will be unveiled by the end of this financial year. The entire team for the new OS will be supervised by Ashish Agarwal, who is also the head of technology at Micromax.
