LG G4 first impressions: Almost there

Follow Us

LG recently launched the flagship LG G4 in the country for Rs 51,500. The smartphone has had its price go down all the way to Rs 41,999 since then and has just dropped by with us. The smartphone that came to us was a retail shop unit so we couldn't test it completely as there were some user restrictions.

Nonetheless, we worked around a bit and have for you the first impressions of the smartphone. The LG G4 is the torch-bearer for LG in the country and the company will be relying on the same to turn around its fortunes. The company has even announced an investment of Rs 1,000 crore in the country.

The LG G4 Dual we got for review was the Ceramic White unit. Let us take a quick look at its specifications before we jump to the first impressions of the smartphone.

LG G4 Dual specifications

  • 5.5-inch Quantum LCD display, 2560 x 1440 pixels, ~534 ppi, Corning Gorilla Glass 4
  • Android 5.1 Lollipop with LG UX 4.0
  • Snapdragon 808 SoC, 1.8GHz hexa-core CPU, Adreno 418 GPU, 3GB RAM
  • 16-megapixel rear camera with laser autofocus and OIS, dual-tone LED flash, Colour Spectrum sensor, f/1.8 aperture, 4K video recording
  • 8-megapixel front camera
  • 32GB of internal storage which can be expanded by 128GB
  • 4G LTE Cat 6, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0, A-GPS, NFC and IR blaster for connectivity
  • 3,000 mAh battery, fast charging (upto 60 percent in 30 minutes), wireless charging

Now let us get to the device.

The display is probably one of the best ones out there and the colour reproduction is pretty much on the better side of things. The contrast is among the best ones from the flagships of today. The curved form factor may or may not appeal to many. It gets slightly difficult to use with the curve and size, but things become simpler once you get used to it.

The rear has a ceramic finish to it and is removable. We were expecting the quality to be of slightly higher quality. We are guessing the leather one's better in this regard. You can notice the power and volume buttons at the rear alongside the camera with laser autofocus and a colour spectrum sensor which works like a breeze, alongside a dual-tone LED flash.

The bottom houses a mic, a 3.5mm jack (should have been on the top) and the microUSB port. The metal frame lends it a certain amount of premium-ness.

The top gets a secondary mic alongside an infrared blaster. The sides are pretty much bare and don't any buttons on them.

Here's a look at the side profile of the device. You can notice the curve in this image.

We didn't notice any lags in the processing department. So that base is pretty much covered. We couldn't transfer the images but rest assured, the imaging quality of the front and rear camera was quite good. It has a host of software to play around with including changing the ISO and exposure.

So those are our initial impressions of the device. Stay tuned to Telecomtalk for more news regarding the world of telecom and mobiles.
