OnePlus misses its own deadline for rolling out Android 5.0 Lollipop update to the One

After a fallout between OnePlus and Cyanogen regarding the software updates for OnePlus One in India, the smartphone manufacturer had announced that it was working on its own ROM, dubbed OxygenOS. The Chinese smartphone brand promised that it would roll out OxygenOS, which is based on Android 5.0 Lollipop, on March 27. However, that's not happening. It's a bummer that OnePlus couldn't follow up to its self-imposed deadline for the rollout of Android Lollipop update for its only smartphone.

According to OnePlus, the delay is due to "additional quality control" and the update will be rolled out once it passes Google certification. According to Carl Pei, many members in their team are running the unreleased update without any problems. To make up for the delay, the company is giving away five OnePlus One handsets every day to five random users. Also, daily progress about the update will be mentioned in OnePlus Forums.

We don't know what happened behind the curtains, but Carl Pei mentions that CM12S will be rolled out to Indian consumers. However, it isn't clear whether it will be rolled out to only those who imported their devices from the company's international website or to all the buyers from India. Cyanogen OS 12 update is promised to be rolled out on March 30.

I am currently running CM12 nightly on my OnePlus One since past one month, and it is running smoothly, but there is large amounts of battery drain going on. I am planning to flash CM11S on this device and wait for the official Lollipop update.
