The Japanese tech giant, Sony is reportedly planning to slash the prices of its Xperia range of smartphones in India by up to 14 percent. According to the report by DNA India, Sony is most likely to make an official declaration on the matter sometime soon.
The report suggests that the price cut will cover the Xperia Z, T, C, E and M series of smartphones. The price decrease might vary between Rs.1,500 and Rs.6,500, based on the product model.
Sony’s step to slash down the prices of its handsets comes forth as a desperate measure in order to combat the growing competition from its rivals like Samsung and others, who are unveiling latest smartphones in the country. Sadly, Sony has nothing new to offer on its platter right now, therefore a price cut on its existing range of Xperia smartphones seems like the last option to push the sales.
Interestingly, most of the consumer electronics retail chains have also confirmed the alleged price-cut report. The price cut will be implemented across all Sony handsets as soon as Sony makes the official announcement.
Moreover, the Xperia list of devices might also include the two variants of Xperia Z3. Sony had launched these devices recently, precisely in the period from September- October 2014. The usual drill of price-cut for devices is typically followed after six months to a year of launch. However, in the aforementioned case, the Xperia Z3 is an exception as the price-cut is imposed within 4 months from launch.
The Sony Xperia Z3 is also expected to shoot up on the sales graph after the price cut. The Xpera Z3 was initially announced at Rs.51,990 and is now available on many e-commerce sites for Rs.44,990. The Xperia Z3 may end up for under Rs.40,000 after the effect of price-cut.
