WhatsApp to implement ‘Call via Skype’ and ‘Driving Mode’ features?

Developers of WhatsApp, the ultra-popular new-age instant messenger app, have been trying out new features off late. We have seen various leaks regarding the upcoming VoIP calling feature in WhatsApp in the recent past, but none has actually been released to the public. Now, proofs have surfaced on the Internet, which show that WhatsApp is trying to implement 'Call via Skype' and 'Driving Mode' features into the app.

The folks over at MakTechBlog have been able to dig up a code snippet, which mentions about the said features, while exploring the iOS version of the app. Other features include Call Mute, Call Hold, Call back, Call me in X minutes, Call back message, Call via Skype, Call Notifications, and a separate screen for showing the call logs of a user.

WhatsApp is the most popular IM messenger among consumers, as it is available on a variety of platforms. It was acquired by Facebook for around $19 billion last year. It's competitors include LINE, Viber, WeChat, Hangouts, Skype, Hike, and Telegram.
