HTC is working day and night to strengthen its mid range smartphones and has just announced the Desire 616 handset which is the company's first octa core offering. The processor is the one found at the heart of a slew of other budget octa core handsets. Its pricing has been kept quite nominal at $298 which translates into roughly Rs 14,400. Let us take a look at its specifications:
- 5 inch IPS display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels
- 1.4 GHz Octa-Core MediaTek MT6592 processor
- Mali 450-MP4 GPU
- 1GB RAM
- Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with HTC Sense 5.5 UI on top of it
- 4GB of internal storage capacity which is expandable by another 32GB with a microSD card
- 8MP primary camera with LED flash and a 2MP secondary camera
- 3G (HSPA+), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS with aGPS and Dual SIM connectivity
- 2000 mAh battery
- Grey and White colours
The smartphone even if priced below Rs 15,000 would lose out to the recently launch Xiaomi Mi3. And it runs on an older version of Android too. It will have HTC’s brand image in its favour to help it get an edge over other Chinese and Indian smartphone OEMs.
