Samsung is likely working on Galaxy S5 Neo with 720p screen

In addition to a QHD version of the Galaxy S5 with a 2K screen and better internal hardware, it looks like Samsung is readying a Galaxy S5 Neo. The device first surfaced over a month ago in a user agent profile listing on U.S. carrier AT&T's website with a model number SM-G750A and hardware that included a 2.3 GHz CPU, which will likely be the Snapdragon 800 (MSM8974) along with a 720p screen and Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

After the initial listing, there wasn't much known about the device until earlier this week, when a device with the same model number (SM-G750) made its way to India for testing. Indian import export database Zauba listed the device as entering Indian shores late last week for testing. The listing above indicates that the  screen size of the Galaxy S5 Neo will be 5.1 inches. As is the case with Samsung's handsets, the Galaxy S5 Neo will be offered in several variants: The SM-G750A we already know will be AT&T's version, while the SM-G750F and the SM-G750H will similarly be variations for other carriers around the world.

What is unclear is whether Samsung will just launch a Galaxy S5 Neo and call it a day, or launch the device and then unveil another handset it is rumored to be working on, the Galaxy S5 mini. The Galaxy S5 mini is said to feature a model number SM-G800 and will contain a 4.5-inch 720p screen, Snapdragon 400, 8 MP camera, 1.5 GB RAM, 16 GB internal storage, IR blaster and the ability to resist dust and water, just like the Galaxy S5.

Until last year, Samsung would have been content with launching a mini version of its existing flagship, as we've seen with the Galaxy S4 mini. However, the South Korean manufacturer decided to take a different route with the Galaxy Note 3, which featured a trimmed down Neo version. It should be interesting to see the direction the manufacturer takes with the Galaxy S5.
