Micromax has just launched its new budget phablet, the Canvas Doodle 3 in the country for Rs 8,500. It has a 6 inch screen with mid range specifications that make sense for the money being spent. Micromax is also offering a free magnetic flip cover with the device as well as a 6 months subscription of BigFlix video streaming service.

Micromax Canvas Doodle 3 Specifications

  • 1.3 GHz dual-core MediaTek MT6572 processor, 512MB RAM
  • Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean
  • 4GB internal storage, expandable by 32GB
  • 5MP rear camera, VGA front camera
  • Dual SIM card slots (dual-standby), 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v3.0 and A-GPS
  • 2,500 mAh Li-Ion battery
  • Blue and White colour options
  • Rs 8,500

The Micromax Canvas Doodle 3 has a decent set of specs for the price but the thing that bugs is its software. Even after 7 months of release of Android 4.4 KitKat, Micromax is still providing a 2 year older version of Android (4.2.2). Micromax should try and up the game on the software side as every other brand is offering nearly similar specifications in every price range. Software quality and features are the areas where brands can distinguish themselves. If Micromax can't improve software, they should collaborate with CyanogenMod which makes great software and even adds custom features if manufacturers asks for it. They've recently started working with Oppo and OnePlus. They also provide constant software updates. Only if you are hell bent on buying a big screen device but don't want to spend much, the Canvas Doodle 3 makes up for a good device.
