Xiaomi Redmi Go now comes in a new variant with 16GB of internal storage up from the 8GB storage we saw on the base variant launched last month. The new Xiaomi Redmi Go variant is priced at Rs 4,799 and it can be purchased starting today via Mi.com, Flipkart and Mi Home stores across the country. To recall, the Redmi Go was launched last month with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage for Rs 4,499, and it's already available for purchase via open sale. With several users demanding for more storage on the Redmi Go, the company has brought the 16GB variant priced just Rs 300 above the base variant. Sadly, Xiaomi did not upgrade the RAM to 2GB to justify the motto of Android Go programme. Almost all the Android Go smartphones available in the market right now has just 8GB of internal storage, so it's good to see a company bringing new variant with storage bump.

Xiaomi Redmi Go Now Comes in a 1GB RAM and 16GB Storage Variant

Xiaomi launched the Redmi Go which is its first Android Go smartphone to gain the upper hand in the sub- Rs 5,000 segment where it doesn't have much presence. The only Xiaomi smartphone that was priced less than Rs 5,000 was the Redmi 5A, but that was way back in November 2017. The Redmi Go is aimed at first-time smartphone buyers and they can even choose it over the JioPhone 2 smart feature phone which is available for Rs 2,999 in the country.

The Redmi Go's new variant comes with 16GB of internal storage and the remaining specs are similar to the previously launched mode. There's also a dedicated microSD card slot for storage expansion up to 128GB.

Xiaomi Redmi Go: Specifications and Features

Diving into the specifications of the Xiaomi Redmi Go, the phone features a 5-inch HD display with 16:9 aspect ratio. Internally, it has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 chipset, paired with 1GB of RAM and 8GB/16GB of onboard storage. As noted, there's a dedicated microSD card slot for storage expansion up to 128GB.

Cameras on the Redmi Go include an 8MP primary shooter and a 5MP selfie camera with AI Beautify mode. As the name itself suggests, the Redmi Go boots Android 8.1 Oreo (Go Edition) out of the box and Xiaomi might rollout Android 9 Pie (Go Edition) software update very soon to the smartphone.

Connectivity options on the smartphone include 4G LTE, VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS and a Micro USB port. Sadly, it lacks Dual 4G support, so you'll not be able to use two Jio 4G SIM cards on the Redmi Go. Lastly, the phone is backed by a 3000mAh battery and it weighs 137 grams. The phone is available for purchase in Black, Blue colour options. It's already up for grabs in the country via open sale, so you can either head over to Flipkart or Mi.com to purchase the Redmi Go. Alternatively, Xiaomi is selling the product across all the Mi Home stores, Mi Preferred Partner stores and Mi Studios across the country.
