Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) expands its 3G Mobile and Data service coverage in 6 cities/towns of Mangalore SSA (Dakshina Kannada) in the state of Karnataka by launching much awaited 3G mobile services in the costal cities Mangalore and Udupi including Surathkal, Baikampady,Ullal, and Deralakatte towns. The 3G services allow telecom operators to offer Video calls, high-speed Internet with speed Up to 3.1Mbps and live mobile TV facility.
As an promotional offer the new BSNL 3G subscribers will get 50 free video calls and 25 MB Data usage as welcome gift beyond free usage Local Voice and Video calls at just 30 Paisa per minute and All STD video calls will be chargeable at 50 paisa with the prepaid FRC120.
BSNL Karntaka’s chief general manager, P Raghavan announced that the 3G Mobile and Data services will be rolled out across 32 cities including all the district headquarters in the Karnataka telecom circle by the end of April 2010.”
The core UMTS network is almost ready in various parts of State and 3G systems are currently being tested, prior to launch. The efforts were underway to achieve this 3G roll out plan by end of April.The 3G facility, which was introduced in Bangalore three weeks ago, has been able to register nearly 30,000 users in just few days.
Speaking on the launch of 3G mobile service, he also announced that BSNL will double the number of its Base Transceiver Stations (BTS- Mobile Tower) across Karnataka to 6,000 to enhance the 2G and 3G coverage. The total expenditure involved is approximately Rs.900 crore for Karnataka circle including Rs 200.crore for the 3G services roll out across the state.
