Airtel Surpasses 2.5 Million 5G Customers in North East and Assam
Bharti Airtel today announced that it has 2.5 million customers enjoying its 5G service in the states of North East and Assam. The company has successfully deployed 5G service across all cities and districts in North East and Assam, Airtel announced on Thursday. To recall, Airtel in February 2023 announced that its Airtel 5G Plus is live in all North East states of India. And again in October 2023, Airtel announced that within one year of the launch of 5G, it has over 1.7 million unique 5G customers on its network in the North East states of Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura.

Rapid 5G Adoption

Airtel was the first telco to deploy high-speed 5G technology in these states, and its 5G service is available across all the districts in the states within 12 months of the launch, the company said at the time of the announcement in October 2023.

The company today said it has registered a significant increase in 5G users in the past six months in North East and Assam. This is possible because of its expanded network deployment that has effectively extended its services across the states, simplifying the process for customers to embrace 5G.

Connectivity Across Landmarks

From the iconic architectural marvels and pilgrimage sites of Tawang Monastery in Arunachal Pradesh and Ujjayanta Palace in Tripura to the breathtaking vistas of tourist hotspots like Kaziranga National Park in Assam, Mawsynram - the wettest place on Earth in Meghalaya, Hornbill Festival in Nagaland, and Tea plantations in Assam, Airtel says it continues to complete its rollout across North East and Assam.

Commenting on the milestone, Bharti Airtel said, "We are making significant strides in building the network infrastructure required to facilitate widespread adoption of 5G in North East and Assam. We express our gratitude to our valued customers who have upgraded to enjoy the power of unlimited 5G service at no additional cost. Our tireless efforts are to keep our customers consistently connected to the state's fastest, most reliable, and cutting-edge network."

Factors Driving 5G Adoption

Airtel attributed the deployment and adoption of 5G in India to multiple factors, including rapid network enhancement, accelerated 5G rollout, and increased availability of 5G devices.

Additionally, Airtel said its retail expansion in the region by increasing the physical format of stores has further augmented consumer connect to help customers upgrade to 5G service.
