Nokia 7.2 With 48MP Rear Camera, Snapdragon 660 SoC Launches in India: Price and Specifications

HMD Global has brought the Nokia 7.2 to the Indian market today. The Nokia 7.2 was launched at the IFA 2019 tech show in Berlin earlier this month and it took the company just three weeks to launch the phone in India. The Nokia 7.2 is the first smartphone from HMD Global to offer a 48MP triple camera setup on the rear side, but the phone has the older Snapdragon 660 chipset on board. The phone comes in two variants- 4GB+64GB and 6GB+64GB, priced at Rs 18,599 and Rs 19,599, respectively. It seems like the Nokia 7.2 is aimed at the offline market considering its pricing even though it has an older chip on board. For the unaware, we now have smartphones powered by Snapdragon 675 and Snapdragon 712 chipsets under Rs 15,000, so the Nokia 7.2 will be a tough sell for the brand, especially in the online market as the phone can be purchased through Flipkart as well.

Nokia 7.2 Reaches India: Specifications and Features

Diving into the specifications of the Nokia 7.2, the phone has a 6.3-inch Full HD+ IPS LCD display with HDR 10 support. It comes with HMD's PureDisplay technology and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Under the hood, the Nokia 7.2 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset, which is the same chipset the company used on the Nokia 7 Plus that was launched way back in April 2018. It's sad to see HMD Global going for a slightly older chip considering the newer ones like Snapdragon 712, Snapdragon 675 and the Snapdragon 710 already available in the market. The phone comes in two variants with 4GB+64GB storage and 6GB+64GB storage. Users can also expand storage up to 512GB.

The Nokia 7.2 is HMD's first smartphone to pack a triple rear camera setup. There's a primary 48MP sensor (probably Samsung GM1), a secondary 8MP wide-angle sensor and a 5MP depth sensor. Together, HMD Global says the three sensors will offer stunning photos. On the front, the Nokia 7.2 has a 20MP selfie camera as well.

HMD Global says the Nokia 7.2 is Android 10 ready, but out of the box, it will ship with Android 9 Pie. And yes, the Nokia 7.2 is also part of the Android One programme which other Nokia phones are known for. Connectivity options on the handset include Dual 4G, VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS and USB Type-C port.

The fingerprint scanner on the Nokia 7.2 is placed on the rear side and it's not an in-display model. Lastly, the Nokia 7.2 comes backed by a 3500mAh battery along with two-day battery life promise.

Nokia 7.2: India Pricing and Availability

HMD Global confirmed the Nokia 7.2 would be available in two colour options- Charcoal and Cyan Green. The 4GB+64GB variant of the Nokia 7.2 will be available at Rs 18,599, whereas the premium 6GB+64GB can be picked up for Rs 19,599. Considering the specifications of the smartphone, the pricing is undoubtedly on the steeper side.

As for the availability, the Nokia 7.2 can be purchased via top retail stores, Flipkart and Nokia Shop Online store starting September 23. Offline launch offers include 10% cashback on HDFC Bank Credit and Debit card, till October 31, 2019. Consumers purchasing Nokia 7.2 on Nokia.com/phones will receive Rs. 2,000 gift card and this offer is also valid till October end. Also, customers purchasing the Nokia 7.2 via Flipkart will get Rs 2,000 discount on exchange.

HMD Global also partnered with Reliance Jio and said the customers will get benefits worth Rs 7,200 on Rs 198 and Rs 299 prepaid recharges. The benefits include Rs 2,200 cashback from Jio; Rs 3,000 vouchers from Cleartrip and Rs. 2,000 off on Zoomcar. Offer applicable for new as well as existing Jio subscribers.
