Xiaomi Redmi 7A users in India are now getting a new MIUI 10.2.7 stable update which adds AI Portrait Mode for the rear camera. Right after the launch of Redmi 7A a couple of months ago, Xiaomi said that an update would add Portrait mode for the rear-facing camera and the company has stuck to its promise. To recall, the Redmi 7A features single cameras on both the front and back, but the selfie camera offered a Portrait mode which works entirely based on software. Xiaomi did not reveal why the AI Portrait mode was not added to the Redmi 7A at the launch, nevertheless, it's now available inside the MIUI camera app beside the Photo mode. MIUI 10.2.7 update is now rolling out to Redmi 7A users in the country and it's a phased rollout, so only select users will get it first.
Redmi 7A is the Cheapest Redmi Phone to Come With AI Portrait Mode
With AI Portrait Mode, the Redmi 7A users can now capture images with bokeh effect, but as mentioned, the effect will be added entirely by software. The Realme C2 in a similar price range has dual cameras on the back whereas the Redmi 7A ships with only one rear camera. The Redmi 7A's rear camera sensor is the 12MP Sony IMX486 which we found on the Redmi Note 5 Pro and Mi A2 smartphones last year. Besides the AI Portrait Mode, the company has also added AI Scene Detection functionality as well. The Redmi 7A is the cheapest Xiaomi phone to support both AI Portrait Mode and AI Scene Detection modes. Also, the Redmi 7A is the first A-series phone to offer both the features.
With the AI Scene Detection mode, the Redmi 7A is now capable of recognising scenes from 33 categories, including six India specific ones. The update also brings July 2019 Android security patches to the smartphone.
Xiaomi Redmi 7A: Pricing and Specifications
The Redmi 7A is the cheapest phone in India right now with Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 chipset. The phone offers a 5.45-inch HD+ display with an aspect ratio of 18:9. The phone comes in two variants- 2GB+16GB and 2GB+32GB, and both the variants has a dedicated microSD card slot for storage expansion up to 256GB. As for the cameras, the Redmi 7A has a 12MP Sony IMX486 sensor on the back, followed by a 5MP unit on the front. Both the cameras now offer AI Portrait Mode feature for capturing images with blurred background.
The phone has Dual 4G, VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, GPS and a Micro USB port. The Redmi 7A has a massive 4000mAh battery and there's no fast charging support, as expected. The Redmi 7A is currently available at Rs 5,999 for the 2GB+16GB variant and Rs 6,199 for the 2GB+32GB variant.
