In an interesting turn of events, HMD Global, the Finnish upstart has released the Android 9 Pie update roadmap for Nokia smartphones. Going by the available information, the Nokia 5 and Nokia 3.1 Plus are the next two smartphones which will be receiving Android Pie update this month. This essentially means that HMD Global will be pushing the update to both the Nokia 5 and Nokia 3.1 Plus this week itself. HMD Global has eight more smartphones which are yet to receive the latest iteration of Android and they're Nokia 5, Nokia 3.1 Plus, Nokia 6, Nokia 5.1, Nokia 3.1, Nokia 2.1, Nokia 3 and Nokia 1. The Nokia 3 and Nokia 1 will receive the Android Pie update in early Q2 2019, while all the other devices will get the update in this quarter itself.
Nokia 6 to Get Android 9 Pie Update in Q1 2019
HMD Global has released the update roadmap today in which it confirmed its first Nokia smartphone, the Nokia 6 (2017) will get the update by the end of March 2019. Maybe, the Finnish company could release the Android Pie update to the original Nokia 6 with Snapdragon 430 SoC next month. As noted, the Nokia 5 and Nokia 3.1 Plus will get the update this month, while the Nokia 6, Nokia 5.1, Nokia 3.1 and Nokia 2.1 will get the update in this quarter. The Nokia 2.1 is an Android Go smartphone, so it will receive Android 9 Pie (Go Edition) update with all the light applications from Google.
The Nokia 1 is HMD's first Android Go smartphone which is also said to be the best-selling phone under Rs 5,000 in India. In the roadmap, HMD Global confirmed that the Nokia 1 would receive Android 9 Pie (Go Edition) update in early Q2 2019, meaning sometime in April or May 2019. The Nokia 3 is also said to get the update at the start of next quarter.
Very recently, the Nokia 3.1 Plus and Nokia 5.1 were spotted running Android 9 Pie on Geekbench, hinting at the imminent rollout.
HMD Global Already Has Eight Smartphones Running Android 9 Pie
To recall, HMD Global already rolled out Android 9 Pie update to seven of its smartphones including Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 6.1, Nokia 6.1 Plus, Nokia 5.1 Plus, Nokia 7.1, Nokia 8 and Nokia 8 Sirocco. The newly launched Nokia 8.1 came with Android 9 Pie out of the box, so it has a total of eight smartphones running the latest iteration of Android.
The Nokia 8 users in India were confused as the Android 9 Pie update didn't reach their devices even after the rollout that happened at the end of December. Yes, HMD Global has halted the deployment as it faced some issues related to VoLTE with Indian operators. Right after the rollout, some users received the update and they reported VoLTE issues with Indian operators. According to a new report by Nokiamob, HMD Global has started seeding the update to Nokia 8 users in India as it has sorted the VoLTE issues. The update will reach all the Nokia 8 users in the next few days.
