Samsung launched the Galaxy J8 in India mid this year, alongside the Galaxy J6. Like other Samsung phones, the Galaxy J8 didn't get too many software updates post its launch. It is after a long time that the Samsung phone is getting an over-the-air (OTA) update which is bringing a range of new features like AR Emoji and Dual 4G VoLTE support. Samsung has already started rolling out the latest software update to the Galaxy J8 users. But the rollout could be happening in a phased manner, which means some Galaxy J8 uses would have already received the OTA update, while the ones who are yet to get the update would need to wait for some more time.
OTA Update Brings AR Emoji Feature, Dual 4G VoLTE Support to Galaxy J8
The latest software OTA update for the Galaxy J8 comes with the build version J810GDDU2ARJ4. The software build is already rolling out to users of the Galaxy J8. If you've received the update, you can connect your phone to Wi-Fi network and download and install it. It is important to note that users of the Galaxy J8 should back up all their data before installing the update on their phone.
The new software update comes with several new features and improvements. The key highlight of the software update is the addition of the AR Emoji feature. The AR Emojis first appeared on the Galaxy S9 series of phone. Interestingly, the Galaxy J8 is the first J series phone from Samsung to get this feature. So how does the AR Emoji feature works? The feature basically lets users turn their selfies into an animated version. This works almost similar to iPhone's Animojis feature.
In addition to AR Emojis, the new software update is also bringing Dual 4G VoLTE support to the Galaxy J8. This means the Samsung Galaxy J8 users will now be able to use two 4G SIM cards at the same time.
Furthermore, Samsung has added software-based Auto Brightness feature to the Galaxy J8. The Galaxy J8 lacks an Ambient Light sensor despite it being priced over Rs 15,000. But the latest update adds a unique feature to the smartphone. Every time when you unlock the smartphone, the selfie camera captures a picture and it adjusts the brightness according to the light in the image. That said, the captured picture will not be saved anywhere on your smartphone.
