Android Oreo Distribution Increases to 21.5% in October, But Pie Still Below the Chart: Google

Follow Us

Google is out with its Android distribution dashboard for the month of October, and surprisingly enough, Android 9 Pie is nowhere to be seen in the chart. Last year's Android 8.0 and 8.1 Oreo's adoption rate has been increased from 19.2% in September to 21.5% in this month. The market adoption for Nougat and Marshmallow and all other previous Android versions seem to have fallen compared to last month.

Android Oreo Share Increase to 21.5%

Google comes out with an Android distribution chart every month, which provides an overview into the adoption rate of all the Android OS versions starting from the much older Marshmallow to the newest Pie. The good news is, Android Oreo's adoption share has increased from 19.2% in September to 21.5% in October. The distribution chart shows that Android 8.0 Oreo has achieved an adoption rate of 14% this month up from 13.4% in September, while Android 8.1 Oreo has reached to 7.5% in October from 5.8 % in September.

Next comes slightly older Android OS version, Nougat. The distribution chart shows that the adoption share of Android 7.0 has decreased to 18.1% this month from 19% in September. On the other hand, the Android 7.1 Nougat's share had also dropped 10.1% from 10.3% last month. The scenario remains the same for Android Marshmallow, Lollipop and KitKat as well. The distribution of Android Marshmallow has also dropped to 21.3% in October from 21.6% in September.

Android Lollipop Share Starts Declining

When it comes to Android Lollipop, the distribution this month has declined to 17.9% from 18.3% in September, while the share of Android KitKat has dropped to 7.6% from 7.8% in the last month. Similar is the case for all the older Android OS version like JellyBean. The distribution share of Android Jelly Bean has declined to 3% in October from 3.2% in September. Interestingly enough the share remains the same for Android Gingerbread to 0.2%.

Surprisingly, the distribution share of smartphones running Android 9 Pie is still less than 0.1%. Right now, there are just a few handful of smartphones which run Android 9 Pie software including the OnePlus 6, Nokia 7 Plus, Sony Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2, and Essential phone. Several smartphone companies have announced that some of their phones will get the Android 9 Pie's sweetness in the days to come. With more and more phones getting upgraded to Pie, we might see the distribution share of Google latest Android OS to go up.
