Another much-awaited Nokia smartphone from HMD Global, the Nokia 5.1 Plus is coming to India on September 24. To recall, HMD announced the Nokia 5.1 Plus and Nokia 6.1 Plus at an event last month, but the company only made the latter available for purchase and it was a runaway success for the brand. During the same event, the Finnish upstart company which now owns Nokia brand said that it would launch the Nokia 5.1 Plus in September as an exclusive to Flipkart. Sticking to its words, HMD has started teasing the 5.1 Plus in India. At the same time, Flipkart has created a landing page for the upcoming handset and stated the price of the smartphone would be revealed on September 24 at 2 PM.

Nokia 5.1 Plus to Retail Under Rs 15,000

The Nokia 6.1 Plus and Nokia 5.1 Plus smartphones are online-only devices from the Finnish brand, which allowed HMD and Flipkart to price them aggressively taking on the competition. The Nokia 6.1 Plus was priced at Rs 15,999 and it received a good reception from the consumers. And now, the Nokia 5.1 Plus is expected to be priced below Rs 15,000, which will also make it a decent buy. According to some YouTube videos, the retail box of the 3GB/32GB version of Nokia 5.1 Plus carries a price tag of Rs 13,199. So there are chances the device would be priced even lower than the mentioned price tag.

If HMD manages to bring the Nokia 5.1 Plus at Rs 11,999 to the Indian market, then surely, it will hit the right spot and gives tough competition to the likes of Realme 1 and Redmi 6 Pro.

Nokia 5.1 Plus is an Android One Smartphone

Another thing worth noting is that the Nokia 5.1 Plus is an Android One handset, which means that it will receive monthly security patches and timely iterative software updates. Right out of the box, the Nokia 5.1 Plus will run Android 8.1 Oreo, but it will likely receive Android 9 Pie update by the end of this year. The Nokia 6.1 Plus is also on Android 8.1 Oreo and is expected to get the Pie goodness by the end of 2018.

In recent times, several brands are partnering with Google for the Android One programme, but HMD's partnership with the search giant is a massive one. All the Nokia Android smartphones under HMD will be part of Android One programme and they come with the promise of regular software updates.

Nokia 5.1 Plus: Specifications and Features

The Nokia 5.1 Plus has an identical design to the Nokia 6.1 Plus, but it has a plastic back unlike the glass back we saw on the latter. The device also sports a notched display, but it's way bigger than the one present on the Nokia 6.1 Plus. The 5.1 Plus sports a 5.84-inch HD+ display with a 19:9 aspect ratio. Internally, it has the MediaTek Helio P60 chipset, coupled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The phone will likely arrive in a single variant like the Nokia 6.1 Plus. For users who're looking to expand the storage, there's a microSD card slot which can accommodate up to 256GB of SD cards.

Cameras include a 13MP primary sensor on the rear which works in tandem with a 5MP depth sensor. Up front, the 5.1 Plus offers an 8MP shooter. Lastly, the phone is backed by a 3060mAh battery with fast charging support. HMD will likely include a fast charger inside the retail box.
