Alongside the Nokia 6.1 Plus, HMD Global, the home of Nokia phones also launched the Nokia 5.1 Plus which features a MediaTek chipset, unlike the Qualcomm SoC on the former. The 5.1 Plus comes powered by the MediaTek Helio P60 chipset, which we have seen on other devices such as the Oppo Realme 1 and Oppo F7. To recall, the Nokia 5.1 Plus was launched as the Nokia X5 smartphone in China last month and it was an instant hit in the country. The Nokia 5.1 Plus features dual cameras on the rear, sports a notched display and the notch is slightly bigger than the one on the Nokia 6.1 Plus. The 5.1 Plus differs a lot when compared to the Nokia 6.1 Plus, and it can be purchased from both Flipkart and Nokia Online Store.

Nokia 5.1 Plus Specifications and Features

The Nokia 5.1 Plus is also an Android One smartphone which means that it comes with the latest Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. HMD also promised Android 9 Pie update for the 5.1 Plus in the future. The Nokia 5.1 Plus rocks a 5.86-inch display with HD+ resolution, not a Full HD+ panel. As mentioned, the 5.1 Plus also comes with a notch and a 19:9 aspect ratio. HMD says the 5.1 Plus offers 84% screen-to-body ratio.

HMD Global has launched the in three colour options- White, Black and Blue. At the heart of the phone, the 5.1 Plus has the MediaTek Helio P60 chipset, which is a powerful chipset built on top of the 12nm manufacturing process. Connectivity options on the Nokia 5.1 Plus include Dual 4G, VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a USB Type-C port resides on the bottom.

The dual cameras on the rear include a 13MP primary sensor and a 5MP secondary depth sensor. On the front side, HMD has added an 8MP shooter. At the launch event, HMD Global announced a revamped Nokia camera application which will be making its way to other Nokia devices such as the Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 8 Sirocco and the Nokia 6.1. Same as the Nokia 6.1 Plus, the 5.1 Plus also comes with a 3060mAh battery and the fingerprint sensor resides on the rear side.

Nokia 5.1 Plus Pricing and Availability

HMD Global has announced its partnership with Flipkart today, so the handset will be available on the e-commerce portal. The Nokia 5.1 Plus' price for the Indian market was not announced today, but the global price of the device is set as Euro 199 (approx. Rs 15,975). However, with the Nokia 6.1 Plus priced at Rs 15,999, we might see even more aggressive pricing for the Nokia 5.1 Plus in India.

Nokia 5.1 Plus Competitors in India

The Nokia 5.1 Plus is the only Android One smartphone with the Helio P60 chipset, which is an added advantage. HMD Global will likely launch only the variant with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage in India. If the price of the Nokia 5.1 Plus is set as Rs 12,999, then it will be a stellar offering from HMD Global. Also, the Realme 1 will feel the pressure because it's currently the powerful smartphone under Rs 10,000.

The Nokia 5.1 Plus will likely turn the tables for HMD Global in India. Consumers in India were waiting for a powerful Nokia smartphone under Rs 15,000, and finally, HMD Global has delivered it.
