Instagram Introduces New Feature to Help Users in Catching Up with All Photos on Their Feed

After garnering a lot of criticism from users post ditching the chronological feed to adopt the algorithm based feed, Instagram has finally come up with a solution to please the people. Reportedly, Instagram had started rolling out the ‘You’re all Caught Up’’ feature in May to a handful of users for testing purposes. Now the Facebook-owned image sharing company is all set to launch the functionality in a full-fledged manner.

Officially Instagram has said “Today, you’ll start noticing a “You’re All Caught Up” message when you’ve seen every post from the last two days. We’ve heard that it can be difficult to keep track of your seen posts. With this message, you’ll have a better understanding of your Feed and know you haven’t missed recent photos or videos.”

There has been a lot of speculation about how this new Instagram feature will work. A confusion has surfaced whether or not the algorithm will be entirely done with or the function will make sure that the user has seen all the posts within the last two days posted by the people they follow. However, Instagram clarified last month that it wouldn’t resort back to the chronological feed, but instead, the company explained the parameters on which the current algorithm works.

Instagram highlighted that the chances of a photo showing up on your feed depend on Interests, Recency and relationship. Meaning that Instagram shows photos based on whether or not the account which has posted the picture is of interest to you, then the algorithm favours recently published pictures more over previous images. Lastly, the algorithm also takes into account how often you’ve interacted with the particular user in the past days over comments, tags or DMs.
