Moto G5S Plus Receives Android 8.1 Oreo Goodness

Motorola broke the silence over Android 8.1 Oreo update release date for its mid-range Moto G5S Plus smartphone. The company has posted a detailed Android 8.1 Oreo release notes on its website which means the update will start rolling out in the next few days. Furthermore, the update also brings June security patch fixes to the device, and it's fair to say the G5S Plus is the first device to get the June patches because Google is yet to announce the same for its Pixel devices. Motorola suggests the users to manually check for the update by heading over to System Updates section inside the Settings app. Also, make sure you've 50% battery left on your device for smooth installation.

In the update release notes, Motorola stated that the Android 8.1 Oreo for the Moto G5S Plus brings many enhancements including new multitasking features, more efficient notification controls, improved data saver and battery features, new power menu UI and Bluetooth improvements. As mentioned, the security patch will be updated to June 1, 2018.

It has been a long delay from Motorola since Nokia has already updated all of its devices to Android 8.1 Oreo. The Moto G5S Plus directly jumps to Android 8.1 from Android 7.1. The update is rolled out only to Moto G5S Plus and not the Moto G5 Plus or the Moto G5S and Moto G5. The Moto E4 devices, on the other hand, may not receive the update at all. There's no timeline for the update rollout for other devices at the moment, but very recently, the Moto G5 was spotted online running Android 8.1 Oreo. So it may be next in the line to receive the latest version of Android.

To recall, the Moto G5S Plus was released back in August 2017 as a minor upgrade to the Moto G5 Plus that was launched in February 2017. The G5S Plus arrived with Android Nougat out of the box. The device is currently retailing for Rs 13,999 and still offers decent specifications on board- Snapdragon 625 SoC, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, 3000mAh battery, dual rear cameras and complete metal body.
