Right ahead of the launch of the Xiaomi flagship Mi 8, the tech giant in China has revealed that it would launch the fourth-generation router which is similarly named as the Mi Router 4. This new device is bound to replace the previous generation router which is selling presently in the Indian market which is the Mi 3C. Although as of now, the router will be exclusively launched in China only, it can soon make its way to India also.

Xiaomi Mi Router 4

As for the specifications, the fourth generation router from Xiaomi doesn’t bring any significant changes to the device except some pretty apparent design changes. The body of the router is now made of polycarbonate shells. Apart from that the Mi Router 4 has omnidirectional antennas and comes with a sleeker design compared to its predecessor.

Since Routers tend to heat up during elongated working periods, there is sufficient cooling tech for the Mi Router 4 as it comes with an aluminium-magnesium alloy heat sink inside, along with numerous cooling holes on its rear and high thermal conductivity thermal paste. Under the hood, the router uses MediaTek MT7621A chip which steps ahead of the previous MT7620. This new chip will make it possible for the router to connect with 128 devices at one time. The router also packs 128MB RAM and 128GB flash storage.

The Mi Router 4 puts the Gigabit WAN/LAN+ 2.4G/5GB dual-band Wi-Fi network at use to make the connection possible, alongside providing two LAN and one WAN port for connectivity. For security, the Mi Router 4 uses WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK encryption, SSID hiding and DoS protection. There’s also an additional MiNET button which users can use to connect to the Wi-Fi with ease.

As for the software, the Xiaomi router uses MiWiFi OS, which is based on OpenWRT. It is because of the OS that users will be able to configure the Wi-Fi not only with a web interface but they can also do so using a proprietary mobile application. The Mi Router 4 will ship at the price of Yuan 199 (Rs 2,100) The orders for the device will start on May 25 majorly online on sites like Xiaomi Mall, Youpin, Tmall, Jingdong and Suning.
