Samsung is allegedly working on a smaller variant of its flagship devices, the Galaxy S9, dubbed as the Samsung Galaxy S9 Mini. The same smartphone with model number SM-G8850 visited TENAA and various benchmark portals earlier, revealing the key specifications. The TENAA listing did not reveal the specifications of the smartphone, but now, it's been updated with the complete specs of the device including the camera specifications. As it was rumoured earlier, the device will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC and will come the same Infinity Display tech on the front. The launch date of the smartphone is unknown at the moment, but India will be one of the markets to get this smartphone because Samsung is feeling the pressure in the country.
Speaking about the specifications of the Galaxy S9 Mini, it will flaunt a 6.28-inch display on the front with a resolution of 1080 x 2220 pixels. Thankfully, no notch on the front and the aspect ratio will be 18.5:9, same as the other Samsung devices with Infinity Displays. Under the hood, as mentioned, it will have the Snapdragon 660 SoC, which is currently the best mid-range chipset Qualcomm is offering. The chipset will be paired with 4GB of RAM and up to 64GB of internal storage, but the storage variants were not revealed by the TENAA listing.
The TENAA listing revealed that the S9 Mini would have dual camera setup at the back, but the configuration was a mystery until now. The S9 Mini will have a 24MP primary camera at the back, which will be paired with a 16MP secondary shooter. Also, Samsung will be adding a 24MP selfie shooter on the front. The camera megapixel is good, but it will be interesting to see how it performs in real life.
Lastly, the phone will have a 3700mAh battery and will run Android 8.0 Oreo-based Samsung Experience UI out of the box. Aforementioned, the launch date of the Galaxy S9 Mini is not yet revealed by Samsung.
Furthermore, it's also said that Samsung will be launching the Galaxy S9 Mini in other markets with a different moniker. In the European markets, the device will be launched as the Samsung Galaxy A8 Star, and the device might be launched in China as well with the Galaxy A8 Star moniker. But for the Indian market, it could be dubbed as Galaxy S9 Mini because Samsung did not launch any Star models in the Indian market in recent times.
The price of the smartphone will also be super premium, expect it to be around the price of the upcoming OnePlus 6, around Rs 35,000 bracket.
