On the sidelines of the Huawei P20 flagship event in Paris yesterday, the company also introduced a budget smartphone, dubbed as the Huawei Y7 Prime 2018. The Y7 Prime 2018 is the successor to the Huawei Y7 Prime that was launched last year in China. The newer model will arrive in three colour options- Black, Blue, and Gold, but Huawei did not reveal the pricing information of the smartphone for some unknown reasons. Also, there's no info on when the device will be up for sale in its homeland China and no information available on the smartphone's global availability.
Talking about the specifications of the Huawei Y7 Prime 2018, it sports a 5.99-inch 18:9 display, but the resolution of the screen is limited to HD+ (720 x 1440 pixels). As always, Huawei is calling this display as a FullView display because of the 18:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood, the smartphone has the dated Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC, paired with 3GB of RAM. The device comes with 32GB of onboard storage, which can be expanded with a microSD card. It measures 7.8mm in thickness and weighs 155grams.
On the brighter side, Huawei has added a triple card slot in the smartphone, meaning users can use two SIM cards and a microSD card at the same time. Keeping up the trend, Huawei has included a dual rear camera setup to the back of the phone. The Y7 Prime 2018 offers a 13MP rear camera, coupled to a secondary 2MP sensor which captures depth information. To the front of the phone, we get an 8MP shooter, and there's no dual camera setup to the front.
The newly announced smartphone boots Android Oreo-based EMUI ROM, which is a good thing. Huawei sort of made a habit of launching phones with newer iteration of Android every year once Google announces it. But the company is extremely slow in pushing software updates to the older phones though.
The Y7 Prime 2018 offers 4G LTE, VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, and NFC. It has a fingerprint sensor placed on the back and is fuelled by a 3000mAh battery. The phone has an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, compass, and a proximity sensors.
