Oppo was supposed to launch the Oppo R15 and R15 Dream Mirror Edition smartphones on March 31. However, the company has made both the devices' official in its homeland China today. The Oppo R15 and R15 Dream Mirror Edition will be limited to the Chinese market for now and will retail from a starting price of 2999 Yuan. Both the phones feature powerful hardware on board, but as usual, they don't justify the asking price though. Also, the Oppo R15 devices will mark as perfect clones to Apple iPhone X from a top-tier brand. Both the smartphones may never come to the Indian market as Oppo never launched an R series device in the country.
Diving into the specifications of the smartphones, both the R15 and R15 Dream Mirror Edition devices flaunt a 6.28-inch display with Full HD+ resolution extending to 1080 x 2280 pixels. With the notch, the display has an aspect ratio of 19:9, and without the notch, it's an 18:9 panel. Oppo claims a 90% screen-to-body ratio, thanks to the notch display.
At the heart of the Oppo R15 is the MediaTek Helio P60 chipset, which is an octa-core processor with all the cores clocked at 2.0GHz. The Oppo R15 Dream Mirror Edition, on the other hand, features Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 Mobile Platform. Both the models ship with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, which can be expanded up to 256GB with a microSD card.
The Oppo R15 features a 3450mAh battery, whereas the Mirror Edition model comes with a smaller 3400mAh battery. And they have support for Oppo's VOOC charging technology. Unlike the earlier Oppo R devices, these new models feature a glass back, instead of the metal back found on earlier smartphones. They run Android 8.1 Oreo-based ColorOS 5.0 out of the box, and a fingerprint scanner is present at the back of the phone. There's a USB Type-C port at the bottom.
Optics wise, Oppo has added similar features to both the devices, but the camera hardware differs. The standard Oppo R15 features a 16MP primary sensor, followed by a 5MP secondary sensor. The camera app offers features such as dual camera bokeh, 3D portrait lighting, AI scene recognition and so on. Coming to the Oppo R15 Dream Mirror Edition, it packs a 16MP Sony IMX519 sensor at the back, paired with a 20MP secondary sensor.
However, selfie camera is same on both the models with a 20MP sensor. Oppo has introduced a new three-HDR technology with these phones for making selfies look better with the right exposure. This feature adjusts the exposure in real-time, resulting in good-looking selfies. There's also the standard AI-based Face Beauty feature and the standard group selfie option.
Lastly, Oppo also revealed the price of both the smartphones. The Oppo R15 will retail for 2999 Yuan (approx. Rs 30,800) and it will come in White, Red, and Purple colour options. The Oppo R15 Dream Mirror Edition comes in two variants- a standard one priced at 3299 Yuan (approx. Rs 33,800) and a Ceramic Dark Dream Mirror version with special screen design for 3499 Yuan (approx. Rs 35,940). Both the devices will be available starting April 1 in China.
